Fwiw, this was passed to me in an email regarding this free offer. Take it for what its worth....Theres some debate whether its safe for the cats or not...

    "FYI IMPORTANT

I did some research on VR1 and found that it contains an unusually high level of ZDDP, or zinc. The zinc acts as a protectant and prevents roller tappit wear, but it has a harsh downside: high levels of zinc will KILL your catalytic converter (assuming you have one.) I contacted Valvoline last night and got this response this morning:

So if your state requires that you have a cat, Valvoline does NOT recommend using this oil. Use something else with a lower zinc content. There are plenty of quality oils and you need not sacrifice your converter for this one.

Oh... the fine for removing a catalytic converter or using a non-functioning one can be upwards of $10,000.00. Not slick. "

I'd say this is good oil for a performance engine w/o cats. Like a weekend race car or short track car.
