Good SUV for wife

Wife has a 2007 TSX and it's too tight with the new baby. Can anyone recommend a good mid size SUV for about ($18000). That's what we can get for her tsx. We have no car payments and want to keep it that way.

Mpg for SUV needs to average higher that 15 but preferably like 20 or so.

We like the highlander and Tahoe. Like the new expeditions but there pricy.

Any suggestions? Will consider used.

 

4Runner and Highlander are excellent mid sized choices IMO. You thinkn 4x4?

no im kidding haha. my mom has one and she doesnt drive it anymore because it gets 12 and 14. But something i would consider would be a highlander or 4runner like stated above.

Would an FJ fit your needs for your wife or no?

Good suggestions but rav 4 is too small. 4x4 don't need as the Tacoma has that. I'm thinking highlander but my budget of $18000 makes it hard. The point is finding a good SUV with some value at 18k

 

I'm going to get flamed but the Mitsubishi outlander sport.cheap awd glass roof navi back up cam heated seats and gets 29-35mpg on highway.

 

Acura MDX, or the Lexus RX330 if you can snag one in that range. BOth are really nice imo

 

Jeep Liberty?

 

Don't like the Honda pilot. MDX is great but too much $
Jeeps aren't reliable.

I dont think you will be able to find a 'new' SUV for $18k. Even a new Rav4 starts at $22.5k. New 4Runner? Those start at $30k. Look into the used market if price is your priority. An FJC is gonna piss you off real quick trying to get the kids in the back seat with the suicide doors. Get something used. Used Rav4's are within your price range but they may be a little small in the back.

 

Explorer of Escape?
We have had 2 Escapes since 06 and both were great although the 04 was better than the 05

 

I'm fine with used as long as it's still in factory full warranty

 

I've actually heard several people that own them say the Ford Escape has been a great vehicle and gets good MPG. In fact I don't ever recall seeing one on the back of a tow truck.

'06-'07 Subaru Forester. They were redesigned in '03 for this body style, so in the middle of that particular run. Safe, reliable and AWD. Maybe it's not a "true" SUV because of height... but if you feel that way, lift it!
