stupid insurance company dropped me, need a new company

My insurance (state farm) determined I'm a high risk and dropped me I've had 1 wreck where I backed into a parked car and they sued saying their neck hurt, even though the police report said it was empty (they parked right behind my truck illegally), and, I didn't file the other people did. I had one comprehensive claim where my tire shredded and messed up my bed and ripped out my lights, and I have 2 police reports where someone hit me head on ( not my fault and not handled through my company) and another police report where someone ran a stop sign and t-boned me ( I did not collect any money from that). Soo doe anyone know any insurance companys in nc that will cover me? My fire chief is talking with the fd's insurance company to try to get me checked off on the trucks, do you think this will deminish my chances of getting checked off? I'm also thinking about getting a motorcycle for my long distance driving in hopes that since it is smaller people will be less likely to hit me or I can manouver away from it. And just getting liability ins for that. Any reccomendations or suggestions are appreciated

your thinking is wrong about the motorcycle. Since it is smaller, you are harder to see, and more likely to be hit. yes it gets great gas mileage, but with a motorcycle (and someone who doesn't have a ton of on road experience) its not if, its when.

Don't flame me motorcycleists. I have experience, and have had 2 friends mess their life up on a motorcycle because people hit them cause they didn't see them.

Also you will mot likely NOT be checked off on the trucks because you are classified as "high risk".

Try progressive I hear good things, well and bad things. Maybe that general automotive I always see commercials on?

sucks that state farm dropped you though. They've been nothing but wonderful for me. They threatened to drop my safe driver discount cause I got a ticket, then I threatened to leave if they dropped that discount. I'm still with SF so you can guess what they decided.

 

^ same thing happened to us we have 4 cars a boat and 2 bikes lol

I recently switched to Travelers through Farm Bureau. They have the lowest rates, at least for me personally. Before that I had 21st Century which were pretty reasonable, but Travelers beat them plus the fact that 21st dropped coverage in my area. Big thing with Travelers though, had to switch my homeowners to them too. Which turned out to be a little cheaper also.

 

Yeah...Your concept about how a motorcycle will "protect" you is all wrong. Smaller and less visible means that MORE stuff will happen around you. And when it does the emergency manuevering is FAR less forgiving. Run off into a curb in a car- The car gets trashed. Run off into a curb on a bike- You get trashed.

 

Thing is I have no negative driving record, no tickets or anything. Not even a parking violation. My main problem is I keep getting hit by stuff haha.ill call my agent on tyesday though and ask if it'll keep me from getting dropped. I should pass with flying colors

 

Did you call your insurance company and let them know about the incident where you backed into that car or did they find out on their own?? That can be a huge "high risk" indicator.

 

The other person let them know, he agreed in front of both me and the police officer that he was going to fix it himself, then I got a call from the insurance stating that they claimed I pulled out infront of them and that 4 peoples necks were hurting. I informed them that it was a parked car, that also only had 2 seats and that I backed into it because the people there parked under the rear bumper of the truck and were making my gf feel uncomfortable ( got out and were pointing and laughing), I gave them the officers name and number and never heard back

 

That is probably the issue. Where you didn't tell them and they ended up involved- They may be concerned with how many other incidents you've had and no mentioned. Even tho it sounds like you got screwed on that one. It's a really dangerous proposition to agree to "out of pocket" like that without a HUGE body of evidence.

 

When I was your age, I used to get into all sorts of things like you've mentioned also. Granted they were "never my fault", but still, it really was the way I was driving and looking back, all of them could have easily been avoided if I was driving less aggressive and paid more attention to other drivers.

I'm also going to jump in with others and strongly advise against getting a bike, unless you think it will help you drive more defensive. As other said, with a bike, no one is looking out for you, so you really need to watch out for everyone. Think about it this way... Every one of your wrecks would have had a very good chance of killing you if you were on a bike.

I dont know about the defensive driving course, as I took it to get a speeding ticket reduced. Of course that was 15 years ago, but I remember walking out of it thinking I wasted my time. Basically, the officer just went over the laws. The problem with that is defensive driving really has nothing to do with the laws, but being aware of what others are doing, and letting them do it to avoid a wreck, if you're in the right or not. It also means helping other drivers by making your intentions known well in advance (signal earlier, slow down sooner, speed up slower, etc).

The basics of it is to assume everyone is going to do the wrong thing until you're certain they're not. (Assume someone is going to run the stop sign until they are close to a full stop, etc).

 

Yeah, for the stop sighn one I swerved to the left lane on the 4 way to avoid hitting them in the driver door but they kept going and hit the side of my truck and just kept on driving. The head on collision the lady spun out of control and hit me head on, the tire shred one is exactly how it sounds. And there is another one insurance doesn't know about where a guy backed out of a parking spot and hit me while I was in a line but that was also mutually agreed not to do anything about
