Highest Rates of Driver Deaths for vehicles

Just in, saw this on CNN this morning. From the Insurance Inst. for highway safety.

The top five vechiles for the highest rates of driver deaths.

nissan 350z 2-door
nissan titan crew cab
chevy aveo
chevy cobalt
nissan titan extended cab

And the lowest rates of driver deaths top 3

audi a6 4 door 4wd
mercedes e-class 4 door 4wd
toyota sienna

interesting info. here. i am just happy not to see toyota on the highest list.

I'm actually surprised to see the Titan on there. Didn't expect to see a full sized truck on the 'worst of' list.

Maybe not in CA but they're all over the place out here. I can't begin to tell you how many I see on my daily commute.

 

Those lists are typically calculated per 100,000 miles driven - so normalized for however many or few are on the road.

Surprised by the Titan.

Used to be all 3 and 5 series BMW's here also but seeing a lot more A6's and a growing number of S4's also. I've only seen 1 R8 but you'd be crazy to take one of those in the city of Boston, the roads here pretty rough.

 

This list does not have so much to do with the vehicles themselves as it does the typical or average driver of each type of vehicle, their driving style & habits, and perhaps their age and experience.

 

i was surprised on the audi as well but if i could ever afford one of those, i would consider leasing one.

A lot interesting information can be drawn from this. For example, statistically you are about twice as likely to die in a 4x2 Taco as in a 4x4 one. The 4x2 Taco's rollover risk is actually higher, despite all the 5-lugger street trucks in the category.
