Topper/camper shell and mileage

Has anyone had one installed and noticed a significant drop in mileage? I'm thinking about getting a leer 100xl, but idk if the added weight will make a huge difference in fuel consumption.

That's really odd. I would think the improved aerodynamics of a topper would help mpg...
My Leer 100R should be arriving in a week. I'll post up after a few fill ups.

A.R.E.

My mileage is about the same, about 20.5 mpg, and that's with about 2-300 lbs of work tools in the back, and 91 octane from costco.

It's not that odd if you consider you are hauling around 200 lbs extra all the time .

I didn't notice any change in city MPG but dropped very slightly on the highway with an ARE MX series. When I added the cap I added a plywood platform in the bed also.

Thanks. Can I still lock up my camper shell securely since only the shell would lock and not the tail gate?

I have a Leer 100XL, and I would recommend getting a popNlock or dynolock anyways. Given enough force, the tailgate could be open past the canopy door.

i bought my truck with a topper. i took it OFF for a couple of weeks to haul stuff, and notice zero improvement. the weight was negligible when it came to MPG. i have a ARE top..i estimate the weight at a tad less than 200lbs.

Hell, if they're going to make THAT much noise anyway they'll just use a short crowbar or a brick. The idea is to make them make enough noise to draw attention, right?

Didn't notice any mpg difference with mine. The tailgate can be forced open with the topper on - previous truck was broken into that way.
