Ford Explorer Sport Trac - Good suvs?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone here has any experience with the explorer sport trac's?

Looking at getting an suv for the gf and like the idea of all the heated seats, leather, 4x4 etc for the brutal canadian winter coming up. Pretty well priced too for the extra bells and whistles.

Would be an earlier model 2001-2005 model. Good vehicles? reliable?

If you're looking for heated seats/leather/interior specifically, you're better off getting aftermarket. You'll save more money and get exactly what you want that way.

Well the 4.0 they have it's eh. I had an 03 Ranger with the same 4.0 that gave me 150K miles and still ran strong when I traded it in for my Taco. The clutch have me a bunch of issues but that was common on the stick 4wd models. The autos had way less issues. The 4.0 is known for timing chain rattle. If it gets bad the tensionors and the 3 timing chains need to be changed which requires the engine to be pulled out since one of the chains is on the back.

Thanks guys,

I think it would be pretty appropriate truck. I guess like any vehicle if you maintain it, drive it nicely there is no reason it shouldnt last your right

I have read in many places that the sport trac is literally the least reliable SUV that you can buy, right down there with land rovers. Internet search will turn this up; edmunds, jd power, consumer reports, etc.
