Just got a new uws box this weekend. I had a gull wing but couldnt fit all my gear in there, so I went with the single lid this time, much easier to put my gear in and out. Who has a toolbox?-621487772_2219771708_0.jpg

Use wing nuts on your j-hooks and it's no big deal to quickly unmount the thing. You might need help lifting it though! Mine's full of tools and heavy.

Here's mine. I've had the box for 6-7 years. It was originally in my 97. I built the side brackets to fit in the 2x6 load support spot on the fender well out of a piece of aluminum diamond plate. It's not actually attached to the truck. It's just wedged in there and has not moved in years. I liked it becuase it was low and a future tonneau cover would fit over top of it. (the yellow bar is a broom handle)

here is what i rock it's off a 96 toyota so i had to modify it's length so it sat on the bed rails plus clipped into factory tie-down rack. the gull-wing door style seems to be stronger then my buddies single lid. id like to paint it black but not sure the best way to make it look good.

I had a better built low profile (UWS knockoff) on my 96 but ended up taking it off and selling it shortly after, just killed too much bed space. I'm planning on getting an easily removable chest to fit under the tonneau cover on my new truck. Carry my tools around for every day use and if I need to haul anything, pop it out. I'm digging the smaller one from tractor supply with the handles on the side, seems like just the ticket. Probably attach it with ratchet straps and a cable lock through the handles.

You aren't kidding there. Having owned the betterbuilt/kobalt/autozone box and used the UWS on work trucks, they are no way in the same category. They look the same though, and honestly, for just carrying around some daily junk, they are fine.

Yeah, I threw some tools in the betterbuilt and watched it bow under almost no weight.
Then got the weathergaurd, and mounted (with mr4x4) the bedrail to the weathergaurd. This box is so strong, I bet ill deform the bedrails before I deform the toolbox.....I've also got tons of tools/chains in it and it never winced. Even when I walk on it.
Yup, that's what I meant by knockoff...it looks like the UWS. Much thinner material. Mine seemed sturdy enough, I had a good amount of tools in mine (I'd say around 75-100 pounds total) with no flexing and I stood on the lid a few times to get to the roof. It'd flex a little, but always popped back. Good cheap consumer box is how I'd put that one. Mine was the autozone branded one, but came with all better built warranty cards.

This toolbox was on the truck when I got it, sort of low profile, I like it.
I'm looking into getting a supertop soon though, so the toolbox is gonna have to go.

Anyone ran the UWS 42" chest in a first gen? I found someone on TTORA that had it in a 2nd gen, so I'd assume it'd fit (since the 2nd gen beds seem to be smaller then the 1st due to the plastic). Just want to confirm before I pull the trigger.
