The wife says that it's bad to leave your AC on in your car, cause then when you go to start the car, the AC compressor will be on, and it's bad for the car. Or something along those lines. Basically, everytime she turns her car off, if the AC is on, she will shut it off before turning the car off.

I never do that. I leave it on all the time, until I don't want to use it anymore. I've never had it do any damage to any vehicle I have ever owned. that I know of anyway.

    So what say ye.

Tell her to worry about the appliances, you'll worry about the vehicles :D

I take no responsibility if she beats your ass sensless as a result...

On a serious note, I've never heard that leaving the A/C on when you turn the vehicle off would cause damage. It might make for a slightly harder start because the compressor will be running right off the bat but other than that I can't see how it would do anything negative.

I do the same thing your wife does. I always turn off the ac either before I turn off the car or after it's turned off. Don't know if its good or bad for the car though. To me, its just one less thing the car has to turn on before starting up the car.

The compressor is not on when you first crank your car, regardless where the switch is, the fan yes, but so what?

You are listening to your wife's car advice? What does she do with the AC while she is in the kitchen?

Why is her car in your kitchen? Why does she need a car when she doesn't leave the kitchen?

It doesn't matter. The ignition switch/PCM/BCM kills all electrical accessories when put in the start position.

    Cough* Ban *cough*

I dated a girl who would shut my AC off before I turned the truck off for this reason. And she got told to not touch anything except the radio when I deem it necessary to do so.

I don't think it hurts the compressor or any other mechanical parts of it but I DO know that keeping it on when you shut off the engine is not a good idea.

    Why, you ask?

Because when you are running the air, there is moisture accumulating in the cabin filter and the housing. When you shut off the air, the moisture stays. Sometimes it does not evaporate thoroughly. Funk appears, mold grows and that is why you will sometimes get a weird undesireable smell when you first turn it on. It's not good for you to breath all that funk.

What is suggested, is about a minute before you turn the engine off, shut off the AC but keep the fan on high. That shoots out whatever "cold" is left in the system, gets a little warm air into the filter and lets it dry out a little, not allowing mold to grow. The longer you leave the fan on and the AC off the better.

Rule One : She is never wrong
Rule Two: If she is wrong refer to rule one.

I turn mine off out of habit, there would be a heavier draw on the battery but other then that nothing to worry over .. That is of course as long as your battery is good...

There is an old joke . Man and a woman get married on thier wedding night after spending several hours consumating the wedding the man gets out of bed. He picks up his pants and turns to his new bride and says " honey here I want you to put these on" she laughs and tells him no. He persists telling her honey for me please " get up and get into these" she laughs at him again saying "no I can't get into them they are to big". He says right and remember that I wear the pants. She looks at him and gets up out of bed walking over she picks up her panties. Turning to him she holds them out and says " here put these on" he is like honey I can't they won't fit. Again she tells him please for me put these on he responds " honey no I can't get into them" . She says right and you won't get into them again unless you change that attitude.....

Now ask your self is it worth the arguement ? Just Saying LOL
