we have similar taste in vehicles so it shouldn't be much of an issue, she's pretty passive, not really in love with anything in particular

"tinny" you mean like my tacoma's tailgate? :(

I have some of the same issues and bought the wife an '08 highlander, she loves it, I like it and its pretty much a mini-van/suv. I highly recommend especially for the kids and road trips, had 6 adults in it last weekend for a trip up over a pass into breckenridge.

    I only buy toyota.

I bought the wife a Tundra...she's little and likes to sit high to see over traffic...not that she puts a lot of miles on it...it is an 07 with just about 30k....

Outback or Forester, if you want something smaller and can wait a bit look up the Subaru XV Crosstrek. It's basically an impreza with a 3" lift and bigger tires :D

Subaru dealer here in NE took us to a very steep hill behind the dealership and drove up it, stopped half way up the hill, and slowly drove onward and over without so much as slipping a little. I've done a lot of research on their AWD system and seen videos like that^ but I have to say that real world demonstration was very impressive. I wanted an Outback right then and there haha I've driven in a buddies in snow up to the hood too, I thought for sure he would get stuck but he just kept plowing through the field. I'm impressed, if you can't tell.

The AWD system is great, it's never let me down. I can get about 30mpg with my 6cyl Outback on the highway too, which I think is pretty good.

I loved my WRX. It was a serious no brianer in the snow. I think were going to end up with a new Legacy here soon.

Rx 350 is badass. That's what I want to get my wife. My wife wants a jeep grand Cherokee though.

Subaru. I had one for a few years, the outback, and couldn't get stuck. With in reason. The all wheel works awesome.

My only gripe was in 5th gear it ran at 3300 at 80mph. The gearing wasn't right. Don't know if they fixed that problem but you can't go wrong.

    Just my .02

I would never buy her a new car, EVER!!

Find her a good used car 4-5 years old with 100k on it, she going to tear it up anyways.
