Most overhyped engines?

I read a thread on motortrend's website talking about which engines are just overhyped! What are your guy's opinions? LT1? 6.4 Hemi? 2JZ? K24?

If that ever comes here! I do think the modern Hemis are obviously not like the original ones. Biggest marketing ploy so far

 

Any twin turbo audi engine. They don't make a lot of power for all that extra expense.

 

The 392 modern hemi has more HP and more torque than the original 426. They're much lighter. They may not have full Hemispherical heads like the original, but everything about them is better. Stick a modern 392 in one of those old lighter Mopars and it would crush the original 426 hemi.

Marketing ploy? Maybe a bit - but it's still a better motor than the original, is still technically a hemi, and is more powerful. So how can you not like that?

 

if you gave toyota 392 CI to play with, (actually 391.something) it'd make like 600 hp lol


426 hemi still sounds WAAAAYYYYYYYY better.

 

i vote 1J. theyre super hype beast status. good motors, but everyone and their kid is throwing them in everything you can think of down here.

And that reminds me that the modern hemi makes all this power even with being saddled with tons of emissions requirements (like 16 plugs).

Both these cars are completely street and emissions legal in NY and NC (not so much in CA )

Isn't most of the Audi line-up supercharged versus turbo'd? And the Audis have a performance programe that you can 'unlock' for extra coin.

oh man, don't get me wrong. I love that motor. But the emphasis on the hemi is just a bit too much. And having tried the 392, gave me the most smiles for every gallon burned out of any car!
