So i grew up driving a 4banger 5 speed 91' toyota pickup xtra cab, just had the tower rebuilt and replaced the clutch for the first time in 270xxx miles. That transmission shifts 10 times better than my 06' v6 6speed... the old toy shifts like absolute butter but my taco shifts a little harder sometimes with a thunk and a little rougher. It just does not seem as good as the good ol toy. Why toyota, why?

This one is easy. 20 years ago, car parts were over built to ensure they were stronger than they needed to be. Now, car parts are over engineered and built just barely stronger than they need to be.
