Do engines shut off when a crash is sensed?

Got a question for you guys..

Do engines automatically shut off in a crash? It seems dangerous to me that a engine would be running while being upside down. I don't know to much about engines, and whether that would be dangerous. Like if in a crash, a fuel line was to be damaged, =loose fuel=fire. Would they be shut off if the airbags are triggered do you think?

 

There's an inertia switch on the fuel pump.

 

I think most newer vehicles will shut down, and some will turn on the flashers and send a call for help depending on the make. They don't all have mechanical, resetable inertia switches. Hybrids will open the relays that basically create an open in the hybrid battery. It all varies depending on the make and model.

 

Many autos have a reset for the fuel pump, I know my f-150 did. I've only had the taco for 2 weeks so I'll have to look into it.

Ford models all have a fuel pump shutoff with a manual reset pushbutton located in either the driver or passenger front footwell. A couple of weeks ago I helped a woman who'd slid off the road and came to a bumpy stop in her Explorer who then couldn't get the car started again. Got me to thinking I should look and see if the Taco has a manual reset but I haven't taken the time yet. Maybe I should get off my ass and go grab the manual now.

 

My old 2010 xterra didn't i speak from experience lol

 

My truck is a manual so it would likely stall out I'd assume

 

flip it and the engine dies automagically

does need a special reset procedure to get it running again

yes I have rolled my 4runner and have first hand experience with
toyota's 'flip-stop the drip' mechanism...(also U can ask me how to
replace an entire 4runner roof)

fuel is also shut off if airbag sensor fires
