If you have a Scan Gauge set it to GPH (gallons per hour) when you let off the gas completely to coast you can see it drop down to around .4 gph. About where it sits at idle. On level road at highway speeds I usually see around 3.8 to 4.5 gph. Put your foot in and you'll hit 10 to 13.

The keep MPHs highs, the GPHs low and you'll get good MPGs.

The scangauge does NOT display fuel use correctly when coasting.

If you display the Closed/Open Loop function you will see it go into OPEN LP when you are in deceleration fuel cut off, but it won't show 0.0 gph. Don't know why scangauge can't get this right but it will even show 0.1gph with the engine off?

What I miss with DFCO is backfiring while decelerating. My 1988 4 cylinder Toyota Pickup was the last year with regular carburetor, and it sounded really cool!

Huh. I'll have to take a look at that. When it comes to that kind of information, isn't the scangauge just displaying what the ECU actually doing? If it can't get that right then the MPG ACT & AVE will be off as well. To get an instant MPG read out, it's just taking real time GPH and factoring in the instant MPH. Then over time, creating an average.

Not sure how, but the scangauge is estimating GPH, there is no direct fuel use from OBDII. Must be pretty accurate most of the time, but not with DFCO, and since that isn't a large percentage of total run time it gets adjusted by the fuel adjustment.
