I got a 95 Corolla from a guy at work for $125 and will be doing a "Mega Stock FWD" (chain class) demolition derby with it. (no welding except safety bar and driver door) I am not new to derbies, I have done maybe a 10 races. I have always done Compact but all the other ones I did were Pinto, Mustang, Volvo and Pacer. So this my first time with a FWD. The car is a 95 Automatic and was a daily driver. Runs great.
    -any thoughts?

I will be moving the ecu and fuse box wiring to the to inside of the car in a few days when the windshield comes out. I plan to kinda just flop the wire loom over the dash board and zip tie it there.

I still have to set up the battery and boat gas tank inside the cab. I am also going to bolt on a Jeep Cherokee bumper to front (rules say bumper swaps allowed of "Like Era")

it was a 88 240 wagon and we called it the Devastator. Because it was a exactly that :) I ran it in a county far from where I live and I got dq'd for making a "driver door hit" even though my driver door was caved in from being hit by all the locals. They didnt like out of towners. So then I repaired what I could and ran it at a diff county fair and devastated again but got got stuck in the mud and sold the car on site to a scrapper for $200 cuz in was stripped and still weighed 4000+. The volvo never shut off... after I started it It ran strong, I turned the key and went balls out and just destroyed my opponents. until getting stuck. Mud tires (diggers) are a waste

after taking close look at the Corolla , one thing that makes me nervous is the the transmission shift fork is in the front of the trans and is only 7 or 8 inches away from contact with (anything that packs in).

it's really only like 3 inches away from touching the front cross member of the frame. (I'm actually wondering if I should torch a U in the frame)
    - NEED DERBY GUYS INPUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be worried about a nose shot more than anything. You are right. It is tight in the front end. :ohsnap: . Notching in that area will severely weaken that area. The rad. has no protection so your bumper replacement will be a must. Can you reinforce the bumper ears ???? Like all the way to the firewall ???? Hehehe.

mike, obviously a track shot to the nose is what worries me. I need to work from the back from the start. and if i still run good eventually i will have to hitting front real estate.

I use to rip the foam out of the back seat and use it in the drivers door for more padding. Duck tape makes a nice reinforced door panel. Put a couple of bottles of stop leak in the rad.
