2002 BMW 316ti timing issues

Ok guys I am stationed here in Europe with 6 months left. My car is in a bad place and according to the mechanics it will cost estimated 4000 USD to fix. Thats what I was going to sell it for. I want to try to fix the car myself but need some advice on if its worth it or not to even try or just cut the car as a loss. The cam timing is off and the valves are hitting the piston. Is there a simple fix like say new timing chain or cam adjustment? The car has little power but is still driveable but I dont want to damage it any more than it already is. When I let off the accelerator there is a ticking noise from the valves. Any help will be appreciated!!
