It's still a 4-cylinder. It won't sell without being an 8 in the Tundra.

They shoved an 8.0L I6 turbo diesel Hino engine on that SEMA dually Tundra. Why not use that engine? Fitment seems to be not a problem, either that or they modified something.

From what I read the power wasn't comparable to what the D3 was putting out. But damn, it was made to tow 25,000lbs or something like that.

Toyota has all this resources in it their hands, damn it use it.

It's got plenty of power, but a 4-cylinder is not marketable.
People will ignore the fact that it's a 5-litre engine and just count the holes. A 5.5-6 litre V8 would be marketable.

8.0 with less power than the D3 = Won't sell due to low fuel economy and being underpowered.

Link didn't copy properly... took me to an Audi hybrid.

You don't think 282 @ 479 is a little anemic for the Tundra?
The 5.7 is 381 @ 401.

That would be a little powerhouse in a Tacoma, but it's not going to satisfy the Tundra buyer who intends to tow a camper or boat.

I know that.

And 479 is anemic for a "HD" pickup that is trying to bust out of Toyota's "toy pickup" image and actually be a true 1/2-ton 3/4-ton crossover.

And HP is torque. HP = (Torque * RPM)/5252.
The HP listing from oil burners is low because their peak torque is at a lower RPM.

The 5.0 making mid-500s is excellent for a truck the size of a Titan or Ram1500... but Toyota has been fighting the T100 image for 15 years, and BUILT the new Tundra to look like it can compete with an F350.

For comparison, the 6.6l Duramax from my '06 3/4 ton....
Peak was actually higher but the dyno operator couldn't get the trans locked into 3rd under 2300.

The new tundra will more than likely have a hybrid or desiel hybrid. Look at the back seat of the 2014 they no longer have a flat floor looks like a place for batteries.
