Avalon leaking oil from boot.

Can some please tell me what this boot is? It seems like its leaking oil from a tear in that boot from the stering rack. Car is a late model Avalon.

Well it's the rack and pinion leaking fluid. The boot has a tear in it. Is it normal to have some fluid in the boot? Hate to have to replace the rack, the car only has 75k on it.

No, you should not have oil in the boot. You have a bad seal in the rack. I'd look up a parts diagram of the rack and see if you can replace that seal.

It would be a lot of work though, replacing the rack would be much much easier.
