If Tundras had been built in 1996, I'm sure you could find one for $3200.

    It's not.

All Toyota engines for the last 10 years or so have been DOHC, basically a hemi design.

The only thing in common between the GM and Toyota 5.7 engines is they are within 5% of each other on displacement and they have eight spark plugs.

I have been thinking about making the move to a tundra. I have been talking to people about the truck and I have 4 people tell me that Toyota stole the engine from chevy. I have tried to explain to them the major differences in the two motors but they just don't understand. Has this happened to anyone else.

Not sure how they could have stole the engine form Chevy when the Tundra's 5.7 is a derivative of the V8 found in the Japanese enginnered Lexus LS460, and is used in the Lexus LX 570 / Landcruiser.

I pulled 1996 because your Ho is a GMT400 design. Ya, it could be anywhere from '95 to 2000.... Tundra started in 2000 and the 5.7 didn't show up in the Tundra until 2007, so if you want to compare apples to apples, you need to be comparing the Tundra to a GMT900 series truck.

It originated in Japan, like the hilux. Toyota created it originally as a JDM production. The name "Tacoma" is only the American brand. The engineering of the original and most of the modern Tacoma is consistently made of JDM parts.

It may have been designed in Japan, but it has ALWAYS been produced here... first in Fremont.

Even before Tacoma, the DLX pickup series had some kind of production agreement with GM... the radiator on my '94 had a GM badge cast into one of the tanks.

Hilux and Tacoma are two totally different trucks that share some basic design concepts.

    OME and worth every penny.

nah. Just plug in between valves. Still a wedge with flat top pistons.
It's better, believe me. Even Dodge isn't really a "Hemi" like the old days.

The old hemis were only good at full throttle, that's why wedge's outsold them for street cars.
