Great news for all of us looking for Diesel's in smaller pickups.

Dodge's new 1500 Ram is selling like crazy. 8,000 orders in the first 3 days you could order. More than half of all Ram sales in those days.

If this keeps up it will definately force more auto makers to look closer at diesels in North America.

After watching a few reviews, it looks like a great pickup. One tester even saw 31mpg on his daily commute. Not bad for a starting price of ~$30,000 in the low trim models.

My Mom just got a Grand Cherokee with the diesel, and loves it. She's getting 28 mpg around town!

I would have bought a GC diesel but here in Canada they only come in the Overland for over $60,000. Way over my budget.

A mid trim diesel Ram is 43,000 canadian, quite a bit less in the USA.

Nissan will have a diesel Titan and Frontier out by 2015/2016 with a cummins. Likely Tundra will be the next one, also sporting a Cummins

Ram will also have record recalls from the new diesel. Anything that has fiat and gm building the engine I'd steer clear of.

Bilsteins in front @ 1.75, OMD Rear leafs, HID heads and fogs, dipped front grille and lower valence, red LEDs in dome and maps, map/dome mod, Custom Bed Rack and Sliders, 32" EYourLife LED Bar, 2 x 6" Side LED Bars, 2 Cube Work Lights and 6" LED Bed/Reverse Lights.
What should be added is Towing MPG and Costs, thats where the diesel will overtake in costs of operation I would imagine.

All those costs are estimates. The Tacoma still gets better mileage than what the epa claims those full size trucks get in reality.

The engine in the RAM is a Motoro built engine. They have been building diesels for a long time. Im not sure any recalls will be attributed to the engine. BUT.........we'll see.

I personally would rather have a Cummins since Cummins build pretty good diesels but hey I'm just assuming it will be recalled for issues like most new engines.

I would too. I think its gonna be a HUGE selling point, that the Tundra will be a Cummins engine.

I'll keep my eye on this http://www.nissanusa.com/future-and-concept-vehicles/frontier-diesel-runner

I have about 5 more years before I'll get a replacement for my Tacoma. I was hauling a full bed of apple wood this morning and wondered how much better it would be to have a high torque diesel going up Parley's Canyon to Park City. Diesels aren't for everyone but has it's need even in mid-sized trucks, IMO.
