Tamper Resistant nutz & boltz for LED light bars, etc

Before paying $40 for a tool and 2 nutz please look around.

Tamper resistant nutz have been around for decades.

Don't get ripped off buying "special" nutz that will cost you an arm and a leg to get and are easy to un-thread with simple hand tools and a nut.

Search Hi-Lok fasteners.

Anything I want secured, lockable tool mounts, lights, etc. Most people don't even know what they are and wouldn't even know how to remove them. Hex head breaks off at a certain torque and your left with a collar and a round head on the other side. Collars are self locking and can't back off or loosened with fingers.

 

Never would have thought about those... Only used them on aircraft.

 

yea, I just looked them up... pretty pricey but if they are good enough for planes and missiles they must be good

 

What's funny is when I worked in the prison everything was secured by these.. so you know they work lol

 

Interesting. I havent seen the bryce products advertised anywhere I've seen before but they look good.

 

Yea, I did a few bandit barriers in our Philly jails and we used all high security fasteners for everything.

Amazing the mark up the offroad shops try to get for these. I guess if people are willing to pay that much why not charge as much as you can. I know I try and get as much as I can for our products at my day job.

The less advertisement the better......means the criminals know less about them as well.

 

The "random" profile in the Bryce head looks easy to round off with a little bit of rust. I hope Bryce makes them in stainless?

May sound crazy but might as well get the bolts for your mounting hardware in these.

 

Has anyone been able to find the Bryce fasteners and bits in small quantities? Everywhere I have seen they want you to order 500 for a lot of $$$.

Just called. I didn't catch a name but the guy I spoke with was very helpful. I told him what I was looking for and he looked it up in their inventory system and said that even though these are typically made to order due to the coding of the key bit, they had some in the diameter, thread pitch and length I needed. He said they had a $100 minimum on them and that the bolts were $0.86 each (M6 X 1.0 @ 12mm long) and bits were $14. He asked the application (should have lied) and when I told him he said they don't sell to the general public. He directed me to icionline.com. It looks like Bryce manufactures a line of locking bolts that are marketed and distributed by Innovative Creations Inc... with a ridiculous mark-up ($50 for two bolts and one key bit, free shipping).

Back to square 1.

 

The thing is, I would have no problem paying $100 for 2 key bits and 85 bolts because I'm sure I'd use them for something eventually but I'm really struggling to convince myself to pay $50 for two bolts and one bit. I guess they know when you've got a lot of money tied up in lights you'll pay ridiculous mark-up to protect it.

man.. its ALMOST tempting to do that 2 for $50 though.. I just mounted my 50" last night.. needing something more than just the hex bolts they provided.

 

There are plenty of other companies to buy from direct... Like McMaster Carr, Granger, Fasenall, etc. Problem with them is the keys are easier to get a hold of for the criminals. Most tweakers won't have keys for them...but the pros will.

 

You could do what I did, after the bolts are in place and tight just drop some solder in the grooves

 

was thinking of grabbing some from Rigid Industries or just from Lowes. anything is better than a regular hex.

hmmm good idea. might do that as well.

i need a total of 6. (4) for the roof mounts themselves and then (2) of a smaller size for the light bar.

im also wondering if i should have bolted the roof mounts, then laid the drip molding back of it, or if how i did it is fine. (drilled through the drip molding, and placed the mount on top)
