    Hey guys,

So my truck is finally in my name (yay) and with that I have to start paying my insurance. I was getting quotes around and since my motorcycle insurance is through Progressive I thought that would be the best route to bundle. So I got a quote and they asked if I wanted to sign up for Snapshot and save up to 30%. I've read some reviews online and they are very mixed opinions and was wondering if any of you guys have or has had the snapshot and what you thought of it?

    Thanks!

i had it, before i changed insurance companies, and i was able to get the 30% off. currently i use all state and it is more difficult to max it out because it accounts time of travel as well. snapshot was easy because it only monitored distance and hard braking, which was easy not to do with a manual transmission and i worked within a mile from home. either way it should save you money

I saw that it records what time you drive too and it categorizes it into Low, Medium, and High risk times to drive. They can't penalize you for when you drive right? And with that hard braking do they penalize you by making you pay more?

they did not track time before. interesting. certain times of the day are more high risk therefore they will decrease your discount, same as hard brakes. they cannot make you pay more insurance because of what they discover, as for as i know. but i am not in the insurance business.

True, true. So might as well add it to my plan because it can only help? I hardly drive my truck anyways, it's used to run errands or make a monthly weekend 450 mile roundtrip. I probably won't save anything because it sits a lot, or that might be in my favor because I am not driving at 'high risk'

If you have more than one vehicle you should indicate that the cheaper to insure vehicle is your "primary" vehicle. That'll save you money as well.

Well technically it is my 'primary' because my motorcycle doesn't qualify as a vehicle (at least I do not think it does) which it should be because I ride it 95% of the time when I need to get somewhere

Do it. They don't track you. It has no gps. It monitors 3 things. How hard break, how many miles you drive, and at what times. Hard breaks would indicate less safe driving, late night driving likely animal strikes, intoxicated drivers, and sleepy drivers, and distance is simple. The more your on the road the more likely you are to be in an auto accident. It can not hurt you. Your rate is your rate. However you can prove your driving habits and earn a discount. It's that simple. Don't over think it.

Thank you! If my rate is my rate then might as well. Just wasn't sure because it seemed like there was more to it than tracking those 3 things and if you do well you save money. But if not, might as well go for it

It has to be set to your timezone wouldn't it? Because I could change my clock to low risk times. Must have some internal clock

Thanks for the articles! See that's why I am tempted because of how little I drive my truck like 'Katie' in the first article who walks to work. I do drive like a grandma too for gas reasons, but with getting it - how they can increase your rates scares me
