    It's been a while since I did anything stupid to my dad so I'm gonna rig up the brake lights on his brand new truck to a horn.
    There are plenty of ways to do this wrong and damage things, so my plan is to buy a couple junk yard horns and splice the leads into a trailer plug harness to pull power from the brake lights. Big magnet and it'll take two seconds to install and remove with no damage done.

    My question is how would I go about setting this thing on a delay? It'd be funny to watch him deal with it in the parking lot, but it'd be hilarious to have it on an hour delay so he won't notice it until he's stuck in traffic on the way to Arizona.

    Any suggestions?

    Ever consider that some road rage whacko might get uber ticked at having a horn blown 'at them' every brake touch, and create a regrettable problem for dear old dad?

    Nah he won't be too mad. And I wouldn't call plugging in a horn to the trailer plug unforgivable. Should make for a funny phone call though. I think I'll need to hook a relay on a delay to the running lights plug But not sure where to find something like that. I've got spare relays lying around but no clue where to look for a timed one...

    And seriously Debbie downer.. even if there were someone sensitive enough to blow a gasket over a random horn my dad isn't the type to pull over and fight it out

    It's not a matter of sensitivity, it's a matter of whack jobs on the road. Many with firearms. Unfortunately road rage has become a serious issue. The 'offender' doesn't need to pull over and fight, they can just take a few rounds on the fly.

    Or maybe he'll wind up behind an LEO who's not enamored with being honked at when 'stuck in traffic' (your words).

    Trust me. I've pulled my fair share of practical jokes through the years. And still do.

    But it can be good to give thought to unintended consequences.

    BAHAHAHAHA it works! Left and right turn signals and hitting the brakes triggers the horn after a set delay. I think 15 minutes should be plenty of time to go from starting the truck to getting out onto the road.

    Exactly. Zip tie it up under the had someplace and it Just plugs in and once the truck starts, the timer starts counting down. Once the timer ends, the relay closes and the horn goes off when you hit the brakes or use turn signals !

    No idea man I just kinda got lucky on it. I really did try but hella in all their wisdom neglects to list the amp draw for these horns...
    The little relay brain thing is rated for 10A and I figured that would be plenty and after testing on my truck, no blown fuses just a lot of noise haha

Im gonna try this on every guy at work and assuming nobody flips out and breaks it, I'd be glad to ship this thing around for you or anyone else to use it. I mean Shit it's literally hardwired for only one function I just put way too much time and effort into this stupid thing. Should be awesome results with a long timer though

    You might want to check just in case, I'm guessing that if it draws more than the fuse it could possibly blow the fuse, not a big deal, but might be worth checking.
