At 300k that engine is just broke in. Lots of life left, but I don't know about the rest of the truck.:D

What year was the Dodge? I'm thinking your comparison is more apples to oranges diesel technology wise.

Well, IS might be the better word since it won't occur technically until 2010 at which time the new EPA emissions requirements go into effect.

Actually, up until recently due to the big three gearing towards the emission requirements that go into effect in 2010 the heavy duty trucks have been exempt. This will not be the case of course really soon.

The biggest issue with the 7.3 is the fact that it is a bored out 6.9. The thin cylinder walls are susceptible to cavitation if not properly maintained.
A used F series with a 7.3 DI PSD turbo can be a good investment if it is well taken care of.

Cat discontinued production earlier this year, and they have slowly depleted their stockpile. They also have paid fines for every engine they have rolled out due to not meeting emission regs.
Through this downturn, we have held over 50% of the market due to Cat's pullout. We expect to be pushing 60% by next year:thumbsup:

Cat's on highway diesel engine production was less than 6% of their global program. It wasn't beneficial to keep producing for such a small facet of their overall production.

Engines is what Cummins does and it does it well. Anything is better than Detroit Diesel, though.
