    Is it legal??

    How about....IS IT SAFE???

    HELL NO!!!!

    Are seatbelts required in Florida?

If wearing seatbelts is a law in Florida, then I'll quarentee having people in the truck bed without seats & seatbelts is definately illegal.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It is legal in PA as long as the speed of 35 mph is not exceeded and the occupants are 18 or older.

Not very safe at all. I wouldn't do it without a medical emergency at hand.

Illegal in North Carolina....but regardless, it is STUPID, IDIOTIC and CRIMINAL to drive a truck with people in the bed. Only brainless in-bred white trash do it. Oh...and Somali Ragheads do it in their Ghetto Tanks.

I watched one of those Cops programs recently (based in Florida) and am pretty sure that it's legal to carry people in the bed. As for with an extender - probably not, I'm sure the law probably doesn't go into that much detail, so a cop would make a judgement and probably say 'no'.

It looks like the law doesn't get specific about bed extenders. I bet a reasonable cop would consider it a tailgate.

+1 for the opinion that it's dumb to ride in the back of a truck.

Wow Pster, rasist much? I dont think its that big of a deal. I did it on occasion when I was a kid and have ridden in the back of friends' trucks from time to time since, and believe it or not I am not white trash, in-bred, brainless, nor am I Somalian. In my Ghetto Tank (AKA Georgia) it is legal as long as you are 18. I agree with petersharp on the judgement call. Not sure a cop would distinguish a bed extender from a tailgate.

ive ridden many times in the bed of the truck, and in 40+ years of my parents driving theyve never been in accidents... so danger in one truck might not be the same in another

I lived in the British Virgin Islands for a long bit and was w/out wheels for most of the time.

Hitch hiking and getting rides in the backs of trucks was normal. Also normal was having to squeeze in amongst everyone else already in the back!

To let the driver know you wanted out, you simply pounded on the side of the truck and he/she would pull over and you'd jump out.

Granted the roads didn't allow excessive speeds (although a NORMAL person would think going 35 on those roads WAS speeding), the idea that it was customary to give/get rides like that was/is pretty neat.

I'm not sure it's a good idea in the states unless you're in a smaller locale and aren't going to be getting on the highway...

however...i think the situation would determine how "stupid, idiotic etc etc" riding in the back of a truck can be

i grew up riding around in the bed of a full size chevy going all over our property on dirt roads...and secondary roads nearby...this was done with me, my 2 brothers, and my 5 cousins...and we had not a SINGLE incident...

Pster, wtf. Do you ride a Bike (motorcycle?) No seat belts on it, really does that helmet protect you all that well at speeds. We have parades here you know Mardi Gras, all our white trash, inbred asses ride in the truck beds. There's a safe and unsafe way to do anything. The op's question was if it was legal, not what do you think about it.

Looks like your grandchild got a hold of your key board here. Easy fella.

To the Op I think it would be a judgment call for the officer.
