I'd never want to tow with a 1/2 ton pickup. For this discussion, single-axle utility trailers don't count as towing as most of them could be pulled by most cars on the road.

That 12,500 lbs is the rating on the draw bar. Properly equipped with an in-bed hitch my tow vehicle is rated for upwards of 22,000 lbs. I'll likely never tow that much, but I prefer to have a vehicle that's overbuilt for my needs.

The hp/torque ratings of 325/570 motivate the vehicle and trailer quite nicely. Going over Vail Pass towing the Tacoma was easier than driving over it in the Tacoma, power wise. Probably had to do with the thin air and the natural aspiration in the Toyota.

Realize that I bought the Tacoma because it's far-and-away the best in its class and suited my needs perfectly at the time. When I needed a heavy-duty work truck for hauling, I again went with what best fit my needs.

    Exactly.

Believe me -- that's is one heavy Tacoma. :)

I've wondered this for year too. Chevy...well, they just never seemed to get it right in the compact truck market after the S10 Blazer. I'm pretty sure Ford was hoping the Explorer Sport-Trac would take over as their compact pickup. They were ahead of the curve with that one as no other manufacturers were making compact crew cab pickups, but they marketed the thing all wrong. Nobody thinks of that as a pickup and they continue to lose market share as a result.

The Ranger has been unimpressive for years. Closest they came to cool was the FX4 Level 2 package, but that was years ago and it's since been trumped by most every Tacoma out there today.

    Me too.

An F150 is slower than Christmas. 1/2 ton trucks tow just fine, sounds like driver error to me if you can't handle a 6k lb car trailer with nothing less than a diesel, per your "race tacoma" photo. Now if the diesel is your daily driver and you like it great. But yes I agree if your towing all day for work such as a skid-steer, then a diesel is the way to go. If toyota got into that line of trucks the Big 3 would just have to go Bankrupt again.

you guys need to do some real research before you go flaming the raptor...name any other production truck even remotley as capeable right off the showroom floor...

also...its apples to oranges when towing with a naturally aspirated gasoline engine compared with a turbo diesel... however you have to love the 'show us what you tow' thread and all the lunatics slapping on a 2" ball and calling it good to go.

F-250s can tow more than that. My buddies dad has a 250 and he tows a gouse neck trailer with 13-15 round bales at a time. Round bales weight between 1500 and 2000 lbs. that means he tows from 19500-30,000 lbs plus what the Trailer weights. He said he would tow more if he had a dualie. All the tundras I have seen towing are sitting low in the back. They are not built for towing.

He has a diesel v8 which will always be better for towing than any toyota gas engine. People that own large farms haul all the time. They need truck that will tow that much weight. And you do get bigger than a 5.4 l gas engine in the 250, and the 350. How bout the 6.8 l V10 or the 6.0 l diesel, or the 7.3 l diesel.

Looks like a pretty nice looking truck to me, minus the orange color. I would really consider this truck if I were truck shopping again. My previous truck was an 05 F150 that never gave me any big problems. Although, for a 5.4L, the truck was pretty gutless.

Dude, I would have been there, back, washed my truck before the F150 ever got there if I wanted to.

Certain dealers will put on mods, long travel kits, supercharger, and out the door would blow the doors off that Ferd

Would someone educate this fool for me? I said PRODUCTION. The raptor is a far cry from an F150... obviously you have no clue.

Um yeah, lets compare a stock Tacoma to a stock Raptor. Sorry, but the Raptor would kick its ass. I don't think any other stock, production truck can compare with the Raptors offroad ability.

My Tacoma will blow the doors off of that Ford, but at what price? There's no way I'm covered under any warranty and the cost to build my truck is FAR beyond the price of the Raptor.

For the money, and by virtue of the fact that any manufacturer would take the step to make a vehicle like that, it's an impressive rig.

Your argument states that a modified Tacoma will beat a stock Raptor. If you really want to compare apples-to-apples you'd have to make the exact same mods to both vehicles. Comparing an modified rig to a stock one as proof that the modified rig is better is a little

But then it's all a moot point since the F150 and Tacoma are in different classes anyway.

I think credit should be given were credit is due.
It's nice to see manufacturers that are car/truck enthusiasts, instead of being like Toyota, who are so conservative. (I guess that why Toyota is still in business, but hey it's still nice to see vehicles like the Raptor, Mustangs, Camaro's etc.)
For many years now I have found Toyota's line quite boring.
What's the most out there model Toyota has, an "S" model Corrola or TRD model trucks with bilstein shocks?
I would love to see Toyota produce some more specialty cars/trucks like what they present at the auto shows etc.

Having said that, would I trade in my Tacoma for the Raptor, no way, but that's not to say it's not an awesome truck
