Locker or ReGear??

I'm saving for the ARB's and gears combo. Those will be my first real mod, before lift and bigger tires. From the 4.10's to probably 4.88, so there's still a little more gear left with the bigger tires.

 

right on... well jenster had brought up that if i want with the arb locker that it comes with new gears... im kinda a newb at the gearing and locker thing... what im asking is does the arb come with 4.56s..?? excuse me for the newb question...lol

 

I did the East Coast Gear swapperunie thingee. He sends you a third member built - you install it and send back your third. Not a hard job. I want to say it was like $600 shipped to my work. - I just wish the Manny/JD Keller rivalry included 4x4s! You guys are a crack up!

BTW - the new gears are soooo much sweeter! Much better throttle control too!

 

lockers would be cool, and a regear won't hurt, but just imagine what you spend $2,000+ on for other stuff on the truck.

i would just wheel the truck like you are in the open desert; go mudding with friends with recovery straps, and just have fun with it the way it is.

No the ARB is just the differential unit - looks like this (in a way) this one has been welded to be a real locked rear end - or what some would call a poor mans spool (no diffential meaning that your can not turn the car with out one wheel slipping and chirping).



Gears are separate. About $200. Then you need to get the gears insalled correctly so that the backlash is adjusted (so the gears mesh correctly). Another $125-200. And then the cost of that beautiful ARB ($800) and a compressor ($200).

Bottom line is it is a bit pricey if you don't have a locker already.

Good point. Provided you don't f-up the recovery sometime. Getting stuck can be half the fun. Helping someone can be fun too. It only gets to be a bitch the time it's not fun. That's usually the time you go and get a new truck or do a mod like this.

You are right. But then again... this is when I think "I can't afford to buy it twice."

another question since yall are here and all lol... if u are in mud with an open diff with lsd is that good....?? and i guess what i am really trying to get at as well... is it a waste of money to put a locker on 2wd truck...??? or are they only designed for 4wd truck... although u can put the locker on a 2wd truck....
