Tacoma wasn't on the recall list..so shouldn't matter. It's the flavor of the month, yes try and sell right not might feel something...by this summer all will be well.

OK... I know others have said it, but I just heard a news clip on the radio and it reminded me I wanted to comment.

KBB and others don't set the market price... they just try to pin it down. Blaming KBB for the drop in Toyota resale value is like blaming the weatherman for the tornado that destroyed your town.

Toyota's phuck-up has decreased the resale value of their cars, and the services that track these things are just trying to keep up. They don't set anything.

Anyone that went through the buyback program absolutely knows that Toyota uses the KBB.

We were able to calculate our value and even correct the reps for Toyota by doing our own research based on the KBB.

The reps for Toyota forgot to add i think the cd player and aluminum rims on mine and after i corrected them, they made the adjustment to the initial 'offer' to the dollar as determined by way of the KBB value.

Whether you believe it or not is inconsequential.

Walk into a dealership and ask how much they will pay for your trade-in, they will quote KBB.

I think we're talking about two separate issues. Some people seem to be blaming KBB for screwing up the resale value of their vehicles (or Toyotas in general, I guess, since our cars weren't involved in the recent gas pedal recall).

The dealerships use KBB, yes, but KBB isn't the reason that you're going to get less for your trade-in than you would have a month ago. The Toyota recall is the reason. KBB is just a tool used by those who try to pinpoint a market value.

KBB is going to drop the price again this coming Friday.

"This coming Friday, Feb. 12, Kelley Blue Book will once again adjust values for these vehicles downward by an additional 1.5 percent on concerns around the growing supply of unsold Toyotas on both dealer lots and at auctions," Juan Flores, KBB director of vehicle valuation, said in a statement.
"It's clear that the market is shifting away from these Toyota products right now, allowing us to project their lowered values,"

Good time to be in the market for a Toyota... you know... once they're allowed to start selling them again.

Why would anyone buy it? We all know they have been on their cost cutting era. Resulting in poor reliability and safety defects. Why would you take the chance on a new Toyota knowing what's coming your way.

Years down the road if they TRULY start going back to their old ways that made their name, then it's worth considering.

    Civic > Corolla
Accord, Fusion, Sonata, Malibu > Camry
    Pilot > Highlander
    Frontier, Equator > Tacoma
    etc..

Who cares? Seriously, everything depreciates. If Toyota finds a random issue with the 1st gen, then the KBB and Edmunds resale values will drop too. I bought my Coma to keep as long as it runs and replacement parts are available. The resale can drop to near nothing and I wouldn't feel bad at all. I'd just buy a fleet of Comas if that happened.

Ok that last sentence just disqualifies everything else u have said... U could have just said resale value does matter to me since I'm not looking to sell..

I guess u can't comprehend the notion that some will want to sell

I drive an older Tacoma.. Would not buy the 2nd gen tacoma like the one you have.. TOO MANY large issues common amongst many owners (and no need to tell me your truck is trouble free blah blah blah). An 09 Frontier is much stronger than an 09 Taco. Hands down.. no doubt.

I'm not a self hating taco owner.. I'm a new Toyota hating taco owner..

Well you are sure making a big stink about it. What issues? And my friend did his research on his new frontier on some frontier sites and found just as many issues if not more.
you have stock in GM don't ya?

    You guys are missing it...

The Toyota recall prompted Kelley Blue Book, the used-auto pricing service used as a guide in private-party transactions, to lower suggested rates on involved vehicles by 1 percent to 3 percent, Robyn Eckard, a Kelley spokeswoman, said today in an e- mail. Any delay by Toyota in resolving the issue may reduce prices by 3 percent to 5 percent, she said.

    Taco's are not involved.

No one is mistakenly thinking kbb is lowering the value of tacoma as it has clearly stated in all press releases that it's only affecting the 8 recalled models.

One could argue, however, that the Tacoma will drop in value based on the perceived reduction in value of it's siblings. The Toyota brand in general will drop, Tacoma included.

Frontier is nice but when I compared 08 models, I paid extra to get a Tacoma because I wanted the best.
