Gas station card readers

If the machine doesnt pick up your magnetic strip at the pump does it ask you to "go see the cashier"??? without telling you to swipe again? just wondering, cause theres this one gas station that says that most of the time I use a card and I'm wondering if most people just keep swiping or make the trip inside to wait in line since it tells you to see a cashier...? or I am wondering, why else would it say "go see the cashier"?

 

I get that message when my card is getting old and the strip doesn't allow the maching to read it. As far as takign a walk inside or just keep swiping...I will go inside. Oh there is one place by my house that will not read a card at the machine, never has worked I guess some are just like that.
