I believe that there are enough thefts to grant a vehicle amber alert. Since we're all very good at identifying cars especially Tacomas I thought it would be a good idea to put an ad like you see all over the web with some details about the vehicles like year, any decals, mods.

I imagined it posted to the right of the recent threads on the tacomaworld homepage

What do you guys think about this idea?

I don't think an Amber Alert will be useful. A stolen Tacoma will likely be in a shipping container down to Mexico within an hour. Don't count on TW members seeing it again...

    You really think so?
I'm not caught up with theft statistics but I can't imagine all thefts go straight to Mexico. My friend had his car stolen a few months ago he didn't see it for three months he ended up getting it back with the cat and gas stolen. The car was parked with the window down under a tree that birds liked to use as a bathroom. It sat like that for a couple of months as there were only like fourteen miles on it.

If someone on here had noticed this and made a connection with the amber alert vehicle idea he may have got it returned sooner.

I'm just fiddling with the idea

insurance gets you a replacement, NO BIG DEAL

a car is stolen every 30 seconds in the USA, have fun getting ANYONE on board with your idea

The absolute lack of concrete evidence that Amber Alerts are useful in child abduction cases makes me think that trying to put a higher priority on cars is 1) Useless from a practical standpoint and 2) Stands to desensitize people to important alerts.

If EVERYTHING is a priority...Nothing is.

naaa..my truck gets stolen, i call the cops then my insurance company. ..then hopefully a toyota dealership.

You would have so many alerts going out that it would be like car alarms going off and everyone ignoring the alarm. If it's not recovered and you have full coverage insurance, then they will cut you a check for a new one. End of story.

    This point exactly.

Nothing wrong with perhaps making a searchable website with a list of stolen vehicle descriptions that people can search on their own, but an Audi Alert is kind of absurd.

Do you realize the criteria that has to be met in order for an Amber Alert to be issued for a person?

They aren't going to do it just because someone says their car is missing, too costly for government resources and time?

I'm not talking about a high priority thing but a small ad like square on the side of the tacomaworld threads. This thing isn't meant to send out texts and put banners all over the web but just something small on the tacomaworld forum

While if someone steals my truck I have full coverage to cover it, but it would make me pretty happy if the asshole gets caught red handed. It pisses me off when assholes that don't work for what they want go and steal to make up for it like bums that are smoking outside a liquor store and still asking for a dollar.

If this pisses you off, life will piss you off, because that is how
the cookie crumbles, everywhere, all the time.

accept it, and only worry when -your- chariot gets jacked. then get a
    fresh one and forget it

lojack, or your own GPS unit (hidden GPS phone with tracking)

that is about the best possible protection, for recovery. it won't get

I'm not comparing property and lives there is no comparison and yes if someone stole my truck or other stuff I have insurance to cover it and its fine not a big deal I know life is bad.

I am merely suggesting a small method of helping find cars or other vehicles. The threads in which people state that they're truck got stolen attract more attention than my stolen car ad. I understand most of that is for people to vent some of that anger and it would most likely never be found.

If there were no property recovery in life then what is the point of a lost and found if someone would just keep the items they found if the person who lost it just bought another.

I have thought about a system which uses gps and a whole bunch other data tracking software that could be implemented into public transportation that could track loads of data that could help in a lawsuit against a city or something or help in driver evaluation.
