1998 Honda civic oil leak

I bought a Honda civic for $550 to use as a commuter and turns out that I have found that there is a small oil leak. The oil pan looks TERRIBLE, it's so dirty with black gunk. I'm not sure where the leak is but my guess is that it needs a new oil pan gasket. Where do you guys think the leak is from? A couple of the pictures were from after I wiped the oil off of the pan in a couple of the pictures.

You can't tell from those pictures. You could try to make sure all of the oil pan screws are torqued to spec. to see if that helps.

 

honda's are pretty easy to work on. I'd just remove the entire engine give it a deep clean and you'd probably find the spot easier if not faster.

 

I'll check the oil pan screws, I would hope it's something as simple as that. If I take the oil pan off do I have to get a new gasket to put the oil pan back on or is it ok to use the old oil pan gasket?

 

gaskets are normally pretty cheap, I wouldn't want to remove a oil pan twice and potentially lose an entire gallon of oil because of a old gasket.

$550? Nice...How many miles? Show us a picture! Clean'er up good and then check, most likely from the main seal (crank)

 

I'll get a picture, there were 254,000 miles and now I just rolled 258,000 miles and I looked today and the oil pan is coated with oil
