How many toyotas have been recalled lately?

    VW quality is above most.

US VWs are known to have issues, mostly electrical. They are typically built in Mexico.
The rest of the world have German VWs, with much better quality control. VWs are actually very reliable, high quality vehicles.
A single isolated problem like this does not mean that VW is junk. I am not saying that they are better than Toyota, but this recall does not change how I feel about VW. I will buy an Amarok any day.

My family has a 2003 vw jetta wagon, the tdi, and they were only built in Germany. That thing is anything but reliable.

Read the article. The Amarok recall is one of several initiated by VW on the same day. :p

My friend owns a German-assembled GTI. He found the cabin filter installed up side down when he went to change it the first time...

VW Commercial Vehicles said that the issue had been identified by its quality assurance team, with the 2.0-litre TDI engine possibly being affected by leaks to the fuel pipe within the engine compartment. In order to avoid any accidental damage to the fuel lines a chafe protector is being fitted at the affected points as part of a global recall programme.

With the common-rail system operating at ~30,000 psi, a pinhole leak in the pipe caused by chafing will probably cause the leaked fuel to vaporize due to the pressure difference. An ignition source would cause a nice flamethrower effect. :)

Yep, amazing they are discovering the chafe point just now, after 3 years on the market.

at least the Amaroks are getting a recall to have it fixed unlike the Tacoma DC's that come with driveline vibrations stock that Toyota now says are " a normal characteristic of the truck " , lol

Not at all scientific. ;) Actually every other vehicle I've driven "feels" more solid than my Taco, but the Taco is the only one I'd trust to hop curbs and jump railroad tracks with. :D

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'm seeing alot of "newish" VW's sitting on peoples lawns with for sale signs. TDI? Thanks but no thanks. Don't even get me started about MB or BMW.

That's why anecdotal evidence is inadmissible in court.

I agree on the "feel"... hell... a new GM feels very solid.

But until you broaden the sample to cover more than a local circle of friends, you do not have a statistically significant sample.
That's what JD Powers and Consumer Reports are all about.
When 10,000,000 vehicles are sold every year, a sample size of 10 is statistically insignificant.

It is also why Motor Trend, Four Wheeler, CycleRider, and other magazines are worthless. They are looking at one vehicle that may or may not have been specially prepped by the manufacturer, and they stick a driver in it that may or may not know what he's doing.
I remember a Motor Trend review of the 2000 Echo. The review was 100% negative, and the reviewer was citing all kinds of subjective issues that were non-issues for someone who wasn't 16. One of the comments was even "But at least it has a lot of places to store stuff if you're into that kind of thing".
    LOLWUT???????????

Even the participants on online forums. Many people on forums sought them out because of problems, so happy owners are under-represented.
