Wheeling Trip to Tray Mtn Labor Day Weekend 2014

I know many people already have plans for this weekend, but for those of you Taco owners that do not have plans, a couple members are planning on running Tray Mountain either Saturday or Sunday!

Below is a little information via Wikipedia of Tray Mountain:
Tray Mountain, with an elevation of 4,430 ft (1,350 m) is the seventh-highest peak in Georgia. The boundary line between White and Towns counties bisects the mountain, but leaves the summit in Towns County. Habersham County lies on a lower part of the mountain, but not on the summit. Tray Mountain is within the borders of the Chattahoochee National Forest and is part of the Tray Mountain Wilderness. The mountain is referred to by some as the grandstand for viewing the Nantahala Mountains in North Carolina and the rest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia. The Appalachian Trail crosses the peak.

The weather is looking to be the following for Helen, Georgia via the Weather Channel App:
Saturday:High 86, Low 67. Showers and thunder storms late. 60% chance of rain
Sunday: High 84, Low 66. Thunderstorms are likely. 80% chance of rain.


We are thinking about camping as well. We just need to make a decision on it ASAP.

Update:

Pretty good resource to scope out trails in the area and surrounding states w/ a rating system, reviews, and pics! They beat me to it though bc I'd been wanting to do something like that

Well how was it today!

The wife and I just made it back from Harlan about an hour ago!

 

How did Harlan go?

 

Tray Mountain went great! Thomas almost got in trouble with the DNR. Had five trucks up there. Only one other 2WD needed help getting up a hill. Other then that it went great!

 

What did DNR folks have to say? You guys come back down same way you went up?

 

He was in a mud hole. Apparently we were "tearing up the roads".

And no we can down a different way. We went up the chimney side. At least thats what Jason said.

Awesome turn out! Fun trip for sure. Ya definitly the most expensive puddle I've ever seen haha Hopfully I'll have more mods done to my truck before the next meet.

It went pretty good! Got my first battle scars haha. Definitely ready to go back though. Probably would've been ALOT more fun if I'd had armor + winch. Or a full purpose built buggy or something haha.
