I'd be interested in a group buy on a cold air intake system.

Unfortunately, I'm not interested in taking the lead on getting one together.

For a 4.0 litre X-Runner, the Volant CAI kit w/ filter (part 18640) is around $300. The additional "accessory scoop" (part 38640) is almost $200!

So what are the advantages of a cai on these trucks? I have read on some other post's that some have actually lost mpg's. I know they are supposed to increase hp, but can anyone vouch for either? I of course would like to gain hp, but not at the loss of mpg's. Also does the region affect how they perform? In other words, if you live up north, maybe you dont need to pull in colder air? Being in Hotlanta, maybe I would benifit more from one?

thats interesting.....the sealed AFE seems to be considered the best, but so much mixed info/results on performance/MPG changes

so if you dont really notice an HP change, what about MPG (gained or lost)?

Or the volant with the scoop, but I kept seeing checl engine lights.

I bought the AFE stage 2 Si simply to straighten the flow of air, increase throttle response, and have a reusable filter.

losing the charcoal filter was also a curiousity.

HP gains are ovverated for the most part.

someone actually lost HP with the K&N setup and proved it with a dyno.

I love my intake, but it is NOT what I consider a CAI.
