Interesting. How would you get an adequate ground plane
with the antenna mounted in that location?
For proper operation (low SWR), a CB (Ham, etc) antenna must be mounted to a sufficiently large (at least a quarter of the radio wavelength) metal surface
. This metal surface forms the ground plane, which is a necessary part of the antenna.
The bed & walls of the Tacoma are fiberglass (no metal), while the metal rails are way too thin for accomplish much of anything (radio related). The only option in this case is a no-ground plane antenna (like those used for fiberglass RV's & boats), which rarely perform as well as a proper ground plane antenna.
