H4 harness is for all year model tacomas? Or what would I need for a 98?

Correct... 9003/H4 for all Tacoma, and even pre-Tacoma.
Most single-lamp designs will take H4.

Very close to putting in order. I just dont want to rush into purchase like this with out knowing much and later have regrets... I've been reading GB threads and seems like ppl are happy either way. Being a kit, you get all the needed items so it comes down to which one I want I guess. Rich has pointed out the only difference that seems noticable is the D2S having less of a hot spot, so I'm leaning towards that... pull the trigger on D2S vs. H1, no regrets either way?

edit: is it worth it to upgrade bulbs that are in the kit options? XB35 or the osram ones? the $40 option ones anyways

I think for those of you who are looking for their first retro and are looking into the mini for ease of installation should look into the H1. They don't provide the evenness of light that the D2S does, but the light that it does put out is in all the right places. I like the H1 as far as light output is concerned for the minis.

Aren't they same install essentially? Doesnt the D2S just plug and play?

Well sorta... Both of the minis (H1 and D2S) are essentially "plug and play" in the fact that neither of them require modification of the reflector bowl itself. They both drop right into the opening and are held in with a ring that aligns them and then a nut goes on the back to hold them in place. Both still require opening of the headlight housing in order to install.

Thats what I meant. They both just plug and play in the sense that they just drop into the hole where the previous light was.

That is correct. Remove the stock bulb and the little reflector thingy and the projector goes right in there.

what else are guys sealing/gluing besides the headlight assembly? if the shroud really does just snap onto the projector i can see how this is a good preventative measure. I would like to take as many of these safety steps as possible first time around. Would silicone really do the job?

High temp RTV on the shroud/concentric ring. It gets pretty hot in there.

The TRS glue is good for the lens.

I think I've decided to go 35w over 55w in the d2s. Might be hopping in this week.

Hey Ya Hope it all works out? Thinking of getting another set of oem to start fresh and have back-up ready... I went with the 55watt 5000k and halo rings in Amber ... skeptical how the retro rings with stand the 4x abuse ...?
Almost ordered a pro pair from you but the shipping costs with duty at the boarder n stuff is lame
Thx for the GB ... saved me lrg$!
