I have put together a new gas tank skid for 2nd gen Tacomas. My skid is made out of UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) Polyethylene. The material is a full ¼” thick and is very puncture resistant and slippery. The material is actually silicon injected which adds to it’s tendency to slip over obstacles rather than get caught on them.

The skid attaches to your truck using 2” endless loop cam buckle straps. Two hooks are provided that slip over the passenger side of the gas tank straps and two anchor mounting brackets bolt to the drivers side of the gas tank straps. The beauty of this design is that those of us that didn’t buy off roads don’t have to buy new $80 gas tank straps. The breaking strength of the webbing and associated hardware is 6,000lbs.

The skid weighs in at a meager 8lbs. We already have enough weight on the drivers side of the truck, no need to add any more to that than we have too.

Don’t forget that you don’t have to paint this skid ever! :D

Installation time should be less than an hour.

By popular request, the default color of the skids will be black. Here is the complete package.

The standard color is Blue. Black is available for a slight upcharge.

For the most part the other colors are meant for specific purposes. There's a bright red that is intended for high heat applications, for instance.

I can put together a list of colors and costs if folks are interested.

How does the skid terminate at the rear? Any potential interference with diff lock actuator guards? (Though the skid probably can be trimmed easily to accommodate.)

I'd be interested in a price for black.

The low weight of these is really appealing, especially because it's all on one side. I haven't totally convinced myself yet though.. it feels weird to put things on my truck that aren't steel.

High heat could be useful. If your gas tank ever catches fire, you can reuse the skid on the next taco!

The skid terminates about six inches before the end of the gas tank. There shouldn't be any interference issues.

I will get prices on the different colors tomorrow. LOL, I think you might have bigger issues if you catch your truck on fire than trying to reuse a skid.

Thanks Mark. You do know those course cones are notorious for ruining gas tanks, right? Better jump on it. :D

Interested. 2 questions, will it fit a long bed, and will shipping to Canada be ridiculous?

I will have to verify that the distance between the cross member and the mounting straps are the same. Shipping is definitely going to be more, but I won't know how much till I take these things over for shipping. Send me a PM with your location so I can get you a quote.

Ok, I verified the colors and pricing. I am able to get blue, red, and black. I will be buying full sheets, so for this group buy I would like to stick to one color. Please voice your opinion as to what color you would prefer.

I will honor my stated prices for whatever color is chosen. Prices will vary once the group buy is over.

I'm somewhat interested depending on how it fits my DCLB. I measured the distance from the center line of the holes you used for mounting on the cross member to front edge of the gas tank. I got 16".

Please measure the distance between the straps and from the front strap to the front of the tank. Thanks!

So much want! Was thinking about a steel one but the weight is considerable. This is an awesome solution to that issue.

From center to center, the straps are 24 1/2" apart. From the center of the front strap to the front of the tank is 11 1/2".
