hey hoosiertaco!! how's it going (with new bow)?

california deer opener for archery in some parts of the state is the 10th!! i was still messing with my bow! it's official, one of the bow-techs at my archery shop is an idiot. had to re-install my QAD rest..done.

here is my broadhead shot at 60 yards!! 100 grain montecs fly great! 100 grain Slick trick broadheads fly even better. i do my part, the bow will do it's part. now to find a dumb deer.

 

How do you like the QAD? I have a QAD HD in the mail, I am hoping it is all it's cracked up to be.

i gotta shoot some again....i havent in about 8 months.....getting some dust on the bottle.

 

Don't think I could touch that with my longbow. Nice shooting.

 

the QAD is bad ass. very easy to install and tune. read the instructions. no fletching contact at all.

 

anybody wanna pitch in so i can buy a new rest?

 

what kinda rest are you looking at?

i have looked at some fall aways...but i just dont like them. i really like my whisker biscuit!

 

ive heard that the whisker biscuit doesnt do well in cold conditions? Have you experienced this or is this just some nonsense?

 

I used a whisker biscuit for years and it did well in all temps. I believe a drop away allows tighter groups, but I have shot two robinhoods with a whisker biscuits too. Before the QAD with it's cocked-up position and the ability to lower your draw without dropping the rest, I would still rate the whisker biscuit as the best hunting rest.

Who knows, after this season I may be back to using a whisker biscuit.

 

i've never had a problem with it in the cold. now...im in south carolina,but it does get cold here. i've used it in 15 to 20 degree weather without issue.

 

If you like whisker biscuit type rests you may want to check out the Octane Hostage Pro Rest. I've had one on my Black Ice for over a year now and I love it. It was very easy to paper-tune, it gives me full arrow containment no matter what position my bow is in w/ zero contact with my feathers when I shoot (yeah...I am old school and still prefer feathers over vanes ).

on a side note i just check my trail cams (i only have 2 out right now) and i 3 weeks i got 2600 pictures. with a couple good bucks. one nice 5 point bull.

i spent the 4th of July weekend up in post falls Idaho with a friend. he just got a new destroyer and the guy setting it up must be an idiot. when i got there and checked the bow out and shot it, it was all messed up.
he had the draw stops in the wrong spot! had the top cam 1/2" out of time, the top cam was at a 20 degree angle and the center shot was way out nock right!!!! so i asked the tech (just to mess with him) if he thought all this was OK and he said well it is perfect. so i ask how is it perfect? to which he replied it shots a bullet hole through paper! since when does that make a bow perfectly tuned???? all that tells you is the arrow is going straight and has corrected it's self.

anyway after making a homemade bow press and a couple hours of adjusting and moving it is still shooting bullet holes but the flight of the arrows and how smooth the bow is, is much better.

 

uggghh.!! good friend just arrowed a 5x4 blacktail near his home in NAPA. he was walking about, in JEANS..with his 82nd airborne, wind in his favor. he got to 30 yards of the deer, and dropped it. he is the hunting-est human ever..the swathe of death he layed down on the pigs, was amazing. i never get to go, because only family is allowed on the property..and in the family he is the only one that can actually hunt.

i had to work all weekend.

i gave up on paper..it messes with my head!! now i just broadhead tune. next new bow, i am gonna use that improved french tune to set centershot, and broadhead tune..and be done. paper tuning is insane (for me). it messes with my OCD personality.

having said that, my SBXT papertunes bullets, and is just about perfect throughout. i can shoot a bare shaft into the bulls at 30 yards. i just let some dude talk me into selling it to him...i'm an idiot. trying to generate a wad of cash for some quality binos.

 

once everything is straight and the cams are timed most paper tuning issues are either arrow spine or more likely torque from ones hand position and grip. not that you are doing anything wrong i have seen it/delt with it a lot myself. i could not get any of my mathews bows to paper tune consistently and what i learned was the grip on the bow and they way i held it was the problem. took the grip off and shot great holes. my hoyts tune in a matter of minutes they just fit me that good. i will say the destroyer is probably the smoothest bow i have ever shot!! it is dead in the hand zero hand shock, pretty smooth draw and very quite. i will be buying one once i pay off the last one i put on a card.

by the way how is the pig hunting in you area? i killed a good one in redding but it cost to much.

also put up some pictures of the blacktail, i am a blacktail fanatic. i am on a forum called blacktail country and also on the Oregon foundation for blacktail deer committee (soon to be called just to the blacktail foundation and encompass all areas blacktail deer reside).

 

by the way paper tuning is not everything it is just a starting point and i have had bows i could not paper tune but shot great. i will say now i think i could get any bow to paper tune i would just have to mess with it for a while and maybe change arrows.

i love bows and bow hunting, i finally know what i want to be when i grow up. i want to own a bow shop!!!!!!
