I went on a business trip last week to Portland, OR from Salt Lake City, UT. I carried my brief case onto the plane and so it went through the TSA scanning process with me. A few weeks earlier I bought some large magnum primers and threw them in my brief case. Also I had one live .223 round in there also that I was trying to match at the gun store. Both of these went through security without a hitch.

I forgot I had that stuff in my brief case so it wasn't like I was deliberately covering up anything. I would have thought they have caught it and I would have had some explaining to do. A .223 round would definitely show up on the x-ray.

Both these items got put into my checked on luggage for the return trip.

Crap shoot at best...I had a pocket knife taken away from me that was in my shaving kit. In the same kit was a 6" pair of scissors. Thankfully, they missed them somehow.

I once made it through airport security with a fully loaded .45 magazine I'd mistakenly left in my briefcase. I have no idea how they missed that, but they must have been asleep. But I have had lighters and shampoo and juice bottles taken.

Crap shoot...sometimes my cigarette lighter is taken, sometimes its not. I think it depends on whether I'm wearing a suit.:)

Once while traveling through Ireland with a buddy, I was stopped because i didn't have my toothpaste in a plastic bag. When we got back home my buddy found that he had a pocket knife in his bag the whole time.

I went through security on my last trip with my Swiss Army knife in the laptop bag. I had completely forgotten that it was in there and I was not stopped going either direction.

They did take my lighter away on the trip home, though.
