im good now. and i gotta....at least for me anyway...the bore butter definitely helped...alot. the sabots were alot easier to load, and im sure they came outta the barrel better as well.

with how it shot today, im gonna stick with 100 grains of 777 pellets and 250 grain shockwaves. im pretty sure it'll hit a whitetail hard as hell from short on out to a hundred yards. biggest open areas i hunt around here are usually 75 to 125 yards anyway. i hunt i thick woods alot.

cool glad you got it all figured out. I honestly believe that 100 grains of power does more damage to a animal because of the shock wave it creates when it hits meat and organs going slower rather then faster, the only down fall of that is it droppes more at 200 but you hunt timber so right on!

The 250 gr. Shockwave Spire Points will have no problem taking out whitetails. I use the same bullet in 300 grains and they have performed perfectly on every deer I have shot with them.

Eventually it will, but with a bull you can take out the lungs and it will still run forever, shock waves cause more surrounding damage

I think he is referring more about penetration/expansion which causes shock and trauma vs an actual 'shock wave'.

If you get a bullet that is traveling so fast that it just goes in one side and out the other with little to no expansion within the animal you have a lot of wasted energy that is not transferred into the animal (in the form of trauma/shock to the animal) and a perfectly hit animal can go a long ways before going down.

When you have a bullet that travels at a slower velocity that allows it to properly expand when it hits an animal you have more energy from the bullet being transferred into the animal in the form of trauma/shock. This often (but not always) leads to the animal going down quicker due to more internal damage.

Obviously we have all seen exceptions to both of the above situations, however this is the 'theory' has proven to be quite reliable in most animals that I have shot/killed/tracked.

It all comes down to ballistics and shot placement. A huge hole won't kill an animal if it isn't in the right place just as a small bullet can drop an animal in it's tracks if it is placed correctly. No matter what your bullet/powder combination is it all comes down do trying to cause the maximum amount of shock/trauma to an animal with your shot. This can be achieved many ways....that is what makes shooting/reloading so much fun :D
