Sighting in new bow...problems

Ok so I'm sighting in my new bowtech destroyer and I have some questions. First off I have a spott Hogg 5 pin sight, I wanted to zero my first pin at 20yds and go up in ten yard increments from there (20,30,40,50,60). I zeroed my 20yd pin but when I went back to 30yds my 20 pin was still shooting dead on, now I'm confused, what should I do.

 

keep it and use it for anything betwen 20 and 30 if it's accurate. you probably have a very fast fps on that bow!

 

Ok, i bought the Destroyer 350 as well, mine does the same exact thing, its the increased speed makes the bow shoot flatter.

yep 40 yard second pin is what i have as well.

 

What if I started at 25yds and went up ten yards every pin after that? Would the added distance make a difference?

When I shot around 300 fps, I used one pin out to 35yards. like others have said I think it's as simple as your first pin at 30, and the second(if you want) at 40, and so on.

I am shooting 3pins, 25,35 and 45yards for hunting season, and i have another site i use with 7pins out to 80 yards in 15 yard increments. I am still getting used to the extra speed of this bow as well, it is really surprising.

 

Yah, I thought my old Hoyt was fast but this this smokes it, I have the 340 so it's not as fast as yours but she still moves pretty good. I'm gonna try what Hoosier said, that sound like a good idea. I shoulda got less pins.

 

....and remember, the faster you shoot, the closer together the pins. That's why I always prefer to use less pins when I have a set-up that is faster, keeps the field of vision through the site better. Also remember setting pins at 15 yard increments is acceptable as well to help spread the pins a bit. Everyone always thinks it must be on 10 yard increments.

My pins on this new bow that is flinging arrows around 270 fps are set at 20, 30, and 45.....and I bought a rangefinder this year too.

I only use 2 pins on Bowtech Diamond Black Ice. Simplicity is a wonderful thing (that and a rangefinder ).

 

I was thinking of dropping to 3 pins

 

I have a 6 pin sight, but I only use 3 of them. I just dropped the other 3 to the bottom on the rail.

I got a buddy with a Bowtech and he uses 1 pin. He won't shoot past 35 so it works for him. He says he gets buck fever and doesn't want to use the wrong pin so he only has one.

maybe i need a speed bow. i have a 2" drop from 20 to 30. i shoot a 7-pin, and to avoid confusion, i put a white paint mark on all the "even" number distances.

numbah. you have all that spare speed. you should buy some lightweight, over spined arrows, and have them built up with weighted inserts. that way you have some nose heavy arrows that could punch through a COW!!

i have a box on the way. 12 brandnew .300 spined arrows with 30 grain inserts. with my 100 grain broadheads, i will have 130 grains in the front. initial calcs show 15% FOC! apparently, high FOC arrows fly great at long distances, and really encourage full penatration of the arrows. some guys shoot 30% FOC, at african game.

if my arrows fly great, i imagine wild hogs dropping in their tracks.

aficionado, where would I get these lightweight high spins arrows?

 

Some of you can get away with shooting only 3 pins and notice the majority of those hunters that can do that are from back east or places where a shot over 35 yards is almost unheard of. But for Rocky mountain hunters we need that extra distance... ie more pins. I shoot an APA Mamba MX2 with a Spott Hogg SDP7 chrono'ed at 346FPS IBO and with a 589 grain Easton FMJ shoots 301fps. I have 1 pin from 20-30 then one pin at 10 yard increments all the way out to 90 yards. And this year I pin wheeled my elk through the heart at 76 yards and never though twice.

You will also notice that with these faster shooting bows you can shoot a heavier arrow which is highley advised. There are some K.E. calculators out there that will explain this better. But moar weight + moar speed = moar power MOOOOAAAAARR
