I was at the range next to someone who just purchased a Taurus Judge and was testing it out, that thing went "KABOOM" and I felt the shock wave through my body standing 7 feet behind it. Very Badass especially for home defense.

I keep a Glock 26 next to me on the night stand loaded with one magazine of Glaser safety slugs and three extra Glock 19 mags with 115 grain DPX hollow point on stand by. Not the best home defense weapon but I know that gun like I know my tooth brush. I have put thousands of rounds through it, am very accurate with it maintain it impeccably and practice with it (either dry fire at home, or live fire at the range) almost daily. I have solid deadbolts on my doors and have shelving or furniture close to the easy access windows creating barriers to slow the path of any intruder. I have night sights on my gun and practice drawing and dry firing with the lights out at different points in my apartment keeping in mind the line of fire and what could be behind the intruder i.e. neighbors units, since most any round will go through a wall.
Realistically the only time I might be surprised by a burglar (relatively small apartment) is if I am asleep. Based on the deadbolts and obstacles etc. I will probably have time to barricade my door and call 911. I would prefer to have LE handle it and deal with all the rules of engagement BS. If the bad guys want the TV bad enough or my microwave they can have it, I have good renters insurance. If they decide to charge my door they get two to the chest and eight to the head so there is no question of, if "I felt like my life was in danger", which apparently has been an issue with juries lately if the perpetrator does not have enough rounds in him i.e. a leg shot or a couple of torso shots without discharging the magazine completely.

A shotgun or a Taurus Judge would be my choice home defense, I would take a 9mm with safety slugs over an AK47 for an apartment community. A Smith and Wesson Nightguard 310 might be adequate as well, shoots 6 rounds of 10mm :)

FTW. When I got mine, it was marketed as The Home Defender, and came with two barrels.

That's the bombdigity. Tubbs would be carrying that (I liked his single shot IIRC). If Chuck Norris needed to Conceal Carry, he would have two of those.

    Very Interested...

I have a big black dog on watch. If the sight of him does not keep the bad guys away his bark is sure to make them think twice

I sleep well with my Glock .40, although my Remington 870 is a true home defender.

I'm pretty new to the board and everything but reading some of these posts really made me think.. First off maybe I'm biased as I never had my apt/house broken into.. I had my old truck broken into a few times but that's a different.. story.. Anyway when I think of thieves I think of some little punk kids or some strung out crack heads who need money for their next hit... I saw one person post how people shouldn't post the alarm system brand as the thieves would have schematics and plans on how to disable that.. That one made me laugh a little bit... If a guy is going to get schematics and plans and power supply info on a alarm system he will probably will breaking into a mansion full of expensive shit.. I for one live in a condo and I have a tough time believing that some would get plans just to break in my 3 bedroom condo.. ..(On a side note, whoever posted the claymore as a home defense option made me laugh my ass off.. ) good stuff.. :D I also have a tough time understanding how some cracked out bum will be carrying steaks to feed to a dog.. He will be eatting them bad boys as opposed to using them as bait.. JMO.. I had my old ZR2 Blazer (lifted etc, subs, amp etc) broken into twice.. both times the kids took my sirius satellite player and head unit.. they couldn't or didn't have enough time to get the subs and amp in the back.. THANK GOD.. Anyway, one night I wake up on the couch fell asleep watchign a movie.. wake up and I see three kids walk around the condo.. I look out the side of the window as to not to be seen and I see they're looking into cars.. I call the cops give them all the info then go lay down as it was like 3AM.. The cops call back and say they had three kids matching the description i gave them with screw drivers and other things in their possision.. They asked if I wanted to come identify and I said "NO" I don't want these kids knowing who I am or where I live so they can plan "REVENGE" for getting them busted.. I told the cops, how many kids are out 3AM do you think that match the description I gave you.. and they have "B&E tools" silence on the other end of the line.. the cops thanked me for my time.. ever since then not once car has been broken into..

If I was going to hole up and hold a room then I'd choose a shotgun or rifle.
But I have kids, and if I need to clear the house, it's a handgun.
So my choice is a handgun -.45

your best bet for home defense is a shotgun. Everyone knows the sound you a shotgun racking one up. 12 gauge

i'm a pistol guy but shotgun is proven the best for home defense, pick it up point and shoot.
