My first deer

Shot my first deer, after it took out my windshield outside of Junction Tx. Bad situation, saw about 5 of them coming across the road in front of me. I slowed down from 70 mph, but there was traffic behind me so I couldn't slam on the brakes. The last one hit my left fender, rolled up onto the hood and windshield, then finished her flight over the bed of the truck. She was laying motionless on the grass, but still breathing. Hated to do it, but I did end her suffering.
Windshield is a goner, and the fender's a little caved into the hood. Pics when I get settled.

 

that's not exactly the story I was anticipating, however, I am glad you are able to be here to type it up instead of other circumstances. I think it's time you looked into an aftermarket bumper.....I hope you kept the meat, just consider it a little tenderized. Seriously though, that sucks you had to shoot it, but at least you were humane about doing it instead of leaving it laying and suffering.

how did you end the suffering?

and can you even legally keep the meat? most states list legal means of taking an animal. our truck isnt on that list

In VA if you hit a deer you are allowed to keep it as long as you inform the police that you are going to. Last year i hit a small 4pt and had to shoot it as well but i kept it and ate it. turned the antlers into a shotgun rack

 

This was the first time I've ever had to draw my concealed weapon. The Sherriff was cool about it, saying "it had to be done" but suggested I "go 'head an' drop that thang back in yer vehicle" before his deputy arrived to take the report. And having another 125 miles to go with a busted windshield I wasn't interested in trying to find room in the loaded truck for the carcass, whether it would be legal to do so or not.
