Thanks again! I like the 5 rounders because they fit under the stock with the rest I usually shoot from.

I think you really need them both. I bought them both at the same time, I love the old Mosin now!

My favorites are my PU Snipers. I've done some Vintage Sniper Rifle competitions and had two ex-snipers re-converted and worked over by a gunsmith to smooth the triggers and polish the barrels. They are the two center snipers in the picture. The top sniper is a "faux" build that has a new-manufacture scope. The second from the top is my rebuilt '42 Izhevsk ex-sniper, the 3rd down is my '43 rebuilt Tula ex-sniper and the bottom is an original '43 Tula.

I need to take my MN snipers out and do some shooting. I've been toying with the thought of selling the sniper repro I bought years ago to fuel a new purchase. :infantry:

Jesus. That thing must shoot fire like a dragon with a barrel that short...

You need to shoot it at night and get video. Mine barfs a pretty decent fireball at night and it's the standard full-length barrel.

A couple of pics of one of my favorite Mosins. Interesting stock, late war stock in the back and a mid war stock to the front, Receiver is also stamped with the CH Mark which I heard is what the Russians marked "sniper" rifles, not sure if that's correct or not.

Can you shoot a picture of the top markings on the receiver? If it is a Tula, it "could" be an ex-sniper that was converted back to a standard infantry rifle. They used a CH or CN mark. If so, you should be able to clearly see where the scope mount holes were filled on the inside left wall of the receiver - 4 holes. This is a shot of one of my 2 restored ex-snipers (this is an Izhevsk, the other is a Tula). The two center mount holes are very evident - if you can see those you have an ex-sniper. If not, it is probably one that was pulled and marked but never converted. Izhevsk snipers were not marked as snipers until converted - the scope number was normally stamped into the left front side of the receiver close to the wood line.

Mine's a '43 Tula model. I should check to see if it's been converted back; when I stripped it for cleaning I wasn't really looking for them, more just trying to keep from getting Cosmoline everywhere, lol.

if u break it down and can put all the metal in the oven that will help, or u can use a heat gun or maybe even a blow dryer to melt the cosmoline. if u use the oven make sure u prevent any from dripping down on the heating element. there is prolly no good way to get it all out of the stock short of chemical stripper and sanding and refinishing

I've heard a lot of times the best way to get Cosmoline out is to put it inside of a black plastic garbage bag and leave it out in the sun to sweat for a few hot days.

Can't vouch.. never had to try.

Hm. Don't know about that, though it seems like it would work. I got mine in the middle of winter so I just used the heat gun on it.
