Turkey hunting with a bow

Well turkey season starts in about 2 weeks down here in florida and this year is gonna be different. A buddy and I are going to hunt the whole season with just bows. Anyone else hunt turkey with bows? If so how was it and any tips.

 

i honestly cannot imagine hunting turkeys with anything but a bow. a shotgun just seems too easy.

i've killed four. two from a blind, two hiding in the bushes..getting to full draw hiding behind a feeble bush will get your blood roaring!!

for a newb, i would borrow a blind, and some decoys.

 

Love turkey hunting with a bow... It's an adrenaline rush when a big old gobbler comes in and you are going to take him out with a bow. Definitely borrow a blind/decoys if you can.

 

I am going to try this year. I have the bow, have the blind and have hunted deer with a bow for years and hunted turkey with a gun for years. I guess it's time I move over to hunting turkey with a bow.

In all honesty, I probably won't do it till I have one bird down with a shotgun though.

 

I have a blind and some decoys. Been practicing calls and stuff. i got the glass one down fine but the mouth call i cant get a good call out of it. Went out scouting today and saw a few promising spots.

 

Try a different brand mouth call. It gets easier when you find one that fits your mouth the well. I had my daughter learn on the ones with the plastic dome built in.

 

I wish you well. Sounds like some good advice already. Also take a video camera if you can, especially since you are taking a bow.

I put in for a turkey hunt in Florida this year and I didn't get drawn. Going to start putting in every year sinve my wife's brother lives down there.

 

CA turkey opener is March 26. my bro is flying up from Texas to check out my honey spot. i hope to get him his first archery bird. we are allow 3 birds per season. i want to knock down 2 birds myself early..rio grande birds. i dont need a big tom.

i found a small population of Merriams, in CA too. i will turn my attention to them after my first two. public land birds.

then hope and pray for an eastern and florida bird.

 

Turkey hunting for me isn't all that easy, even with a shotgun. I keep thinking I may give it a try with my bow after I get one on the ground. The problem is the best spots I have to try this are in CT, and I'd need to get my archery permit and deer tags in addition to my turkey tags just for the privelage of using the bow. Thats well over $100 more for the season. Granted, I'll probably be getting my archery permit anyway, but not until September.

I hunted my first turkey season with my bow. Worked a bird two different days, finally had it in bow distance, and while coming to full draw, it must have seen my upper limb and busted me. Pretty disappointing but it was still awesome. Turkey season opens up in 4 weeks here and I think Dad and I are gonna take the shotguns and leave the bows behind.

Got my first bird last year with my 20ga.
