lol thats a pretty opinionated statement right there!

there is a reason the military uses the AR platform over the mini ;)

You are right. The military's uses however do not include FUN as a main reason to award the contract to Colt.

The OP is looking to get into recreational shooting. I submit that all things considered, fun, reliability and access are keys for such decisions over 1/4 MOA accuracy at 500 yards.

"Fun" is in the eye of the beholder. AR-15 rifles are for me, more fun than ANY other rifle.

I went to my buddies house today and his neighbor has a Mini 14...very very sweet looking gun...for me the fun factor is the most important...I for sure love the feel of the Mini 14 and my buddies AR...in a couple of weeks I will make my decision as we are going to be heading out to go shooting..will report back my result :D

i bought my son a Mini 14 7yrs ago. We put a new stock on it and he has shoot thousands of thru it and never has a fail to fire. My son has Never cleaned the gun. He likes to see how fast he can empty the magazine. He gets it so hot you can the heat waves coming off of the barrel. If you buy the Ruger mags they are better. The design of the gun has been around since WWII (M1 carbine. M1 Grand, M14 ,the Socom)
I sold my AR15 to buy another Mini14 because I feel like it is a better gun. The first mini14s were not as accurate as the M16 so the Government went with the M16. Ruger has fixed it now so they are accurate.

i had a mini 14 for a few years before i got into AR's and there's no comparrison, the mini 14 was always reliable but so are my AR's, the accuracy difference is huge between the 2, i'd put my 11.5in bbl AR up against a mini14 at 100yds any day
