.22LR kit for your AR?

is anyone using a .22 conversion kit for their AR? Im not talking about a dedicated upper, just the BCG with the .22 mags.

how is accuracy, reliability?
how dirty does it make your gun?

is it worth spending the money in your opinion?

I don't own one, but shot a friends and then installed his BCG in mine and shot it.
Accuracy was OK...wasn't shooting for groups....elevation settings were way off....like 18" at 50yds.
Function was perfect.
There is a guy at my range that shoots tiny groups at 50yds with his.

 

I don't have one but it's on 'the list.'

 

I had one and sold it off. I have two .22 rifles and four .22 pistols. I bought it expecting to use it with my suppressor but the action is pretty loud. Function was 100%, and it doesn;t hurt your gun. Accuracy isn't great: 4 to 6" at 25 yds. It was a ciener kit.

 

I keep hearing that the accuracy sucks but I wouldn't use it to sight in my optics anyways, just to run my AR for cheap.

 

4-6" "groups" at only 25 yards in unacceptable.

 

i was looking at either getting a sig 522 or doing an AR build with a .22 dedicated upper and then getting a 5.56 upper later cuz i know .22 is cheap and fun to shoot.

I was surprised I even got that. A bore that's a few thousandths bigger than the bullet, plus a completely incorrect twist rate. It just happens that the bore sizes are close enough to work, which is the whole reason conversion kits are popular. For any other gun, a 22 LR kit would include a proper barrel.

If you want an ar-style 22 LR, I recommend a dedicated upper with a 1:16" proper barrel over a kit any day. Personally I'd rather plink with 5.56, and reload so I can do it cheaply.

 

So would I if I could afford to. This whole not working thing sucks. I actually did get a part time job making half of what I used per hour and 1/4 of the hours. FML

Ill probably end up getting one of the complete rifles like the SW 15-22

 

Not to mention living indoors is fairly pricey too.

I hear that it is better to just get a dedicated upper like a CMMG compared to just the bolt carrier group.
