x2, but a pistol clip will become looser over time and may not feed into the chamber very well, ive had it happen with .22 clips

    You don't want to know...
I've always been told you should alternate mags every one to two weeks.

That's not to say if you leave it loaded longer it will wear the spring out right away. I have a Kahr 40 that hasn't been unloaded in over a year and as of a couple days ago it still feeds fine.

I never keep my clips loaded. Soon as I put the gun in the cabinet the clips get emptied and put the rounds back in the box. I don't wanna have one not load when there's something with wallhanger potential standin in front of me.

Buy quality mags. I have three different brand mags for my .45 one is the springfield that came with it, two are kimber which I think are the best, and two are chip mccormick which I won't buy again. I'm sticking with kimber. Not saying that any of these will or will not fail, I just like the way kimbers durability feels over the chips. The chips seem to want to fall apart when putting the first round in, but after that they're ok.

Would it help to not fully load the clip? Not completely compress the spring and minimize fatigue?

    Just wondering.

Only have rifles (clip) and shotguns for hunting. Only loaded when I'm actually hunting.

For the OP, seems like rotating the clips seems like a good option.

ive heard they never really go bad or it will take a really long time

i usually keep 1 or 2 mags loaded and i usually rotate them out but its not really cuz im scared of the spring going bad. just cuz i like to shake things up lol

but if you do have a spring get sprung all you gotta do is pull the mag apart and stretch the spring out real good and put it back in

    good to go

I don't know, but I've also been told to stretch the springs slightly (tug, not yank on them) if/when you clean a magazine, just to make sure they're not compressed.

I usually rotate my HD magazines monthly.

From my experience as a gun enthusiast, owner, and certified Glock Armorer. I've learned that pistol magazines are more prone damage/breakage/wear from loading and unloading, not keeping the spring compressed.
I did a lot of research on this after a "revolver vs. semi-auto" debate came up with my uncle over a family gathering. Part of my argument was round capacity, and ease of reloading. However I kept getting the response "it won't help when that clip (hate that btw!) doesn't feed because the spring is bad".
The most wear on the mag spring will be from loading and unloading.
