I see some nice knives in here, I have been researching survival knives. I am sure that I will see some good ones in this thread. I checked out the knives that Bear Gryllis carries ,just cant afford almost $400.....any idea from you guys on affordable, not cheap survival knives?

becker knife and tool bk7 bk9 bk2 imho the best survival knife for the money period. rat cuterly and ontario also check out kabar. all of those knives are great for the money the kabars i'm partial to i have beat the ever loving shit out of 1095 crovan its relatively easy to sharpen in the field and it holds a decent edge. just my .02

 

Yeah being exmilitary ka-bar is burnt into my head as a good knife. And for the money,great knife for the price. I want to find a knife dealer that carries the bigger brands like Ontario, I like to get the feel of the knife before buying. The local knive shop closed, I dont know where they moved.

im i meat cutter so these are the three knives i use ill get a pic of mine tomorrow or when ever the yellow kinfe is a 8 inch breaking forchner knife the black one is also a forchner knife a 5 inch boning knife and last is my 10 inch f dick or ( my dick aka at work )really heavy knife

Haha! I have been a meat cutter for 15 years. I recognized that breaking knife from a mile away. I use the same one only with a black fibrox handle. I used a rosewood handled one for like 10 years. I prefer a six inch boning knife to the five... I use a 10 inch breaking knife sometimes, but most stuff today dosen't need it.

 

I haven't had to sharpen it yet. It's a tad bulky for me but I do love its size otherwise.

I'm jonesin for a Lum though. Maybe one day. But the longer I wait, the more $$$ they are. I have a good friend that would sell me one out of his collection (safe queens) if I ask him to. But I would feel bad doing that.

 

cool i really want the small tanto sebenza. and i can just imagine sharpening the zt that recurve and the steel choice make for an excellent tool, but i know they are tricky to sharpen.

 

holy shit i just realized your a girl lol. you wouldn't happen to be married by any chance would you? forgive me i have never had a conversation with a chick about knives much less one that used the term safe queens. awesome just when when i thought i saw it all lol.

 

if i was going to spend money i would get a busse for a survival knife, and you absolutely can not go wrong with a strider.

 

i forgot to mention that i don't carry the 300 that thing is rugged lol. i do however carry the 350 i love it with jeans i forget its' even there and it has got to be one of if not they most heavy duty liner locks i have seen my zt 350 locks up like a bank vault!

I wanted to get one of those custom scaled Sebbies but there's gotta be a limit to what I spend on knives. Someone actually said something to me that helped me to curb my collection.

I don't know why they don't make a straight edge LMF. The serrated part just kills that knife IMO. Only reason I don't own one...

 

I don't like serrations on ANY knife except for steak or bread knives. You can only sharpen one side and that eventually wears it down anyway. I have two knives with serrations and although its good for cutting strapping, it's just a pain to maintain.

Might as well get a regrind...

 

agreed serrations suck! i really don't like them on any knife at all.
