yeah neither have i. but if you have it on you all the time or in the truck. If you got in a wreck of pulled up on one and seat belt wont just unbuckle you can cut it.

 

I used a pos one at the junk yard once and it sucked. The knife did a better job. But I'm sure a high quality one would work great.

Maybe Tigerfan will chime in about seat belt cutters. I'd be interested if he uses one or carries one. Seems like it might be a marketing thing more than it is a great tool to have.
I know some knives have unground and rounded off knife blade tips so you can cut a seat belt without risk of stabbing the person, but again I'm curious what we did before these came along.
I don't recall any LEs I know having a folder on their person, at least with that feature.

Why the tdi over the Emerson

 

Have to kind of roll it in California talk for a sec. The TDI was cheaper, smaller (easier to conceal), and less menacing to look at. I could pull it out in a public setting and cut something if need be, and not freak anybody out. The karambit is really designed to be a weapon, primarily, so I was hesitant to carry a knife that can't really be called a "tool," which a knife to me is primarily. I didn't think it was practical for knife tasks and pretty limited to it's intended design of defense.

I've never been in a knife fight and don't train for one, the karambit from my understanding is a great knife for it's purpose, but it also requires some training or educating to use it properly. Neither appealed to me.

Primarily I went with the TDI because I think it was under $30, easily concealable design when sheathed and it really concealed pretty easily in my hand and drawn also, so the likelihood of me approaching some shady people on a dark sidewalk (while slim) allowed me to draw the knife beforehand and it wouldn't be obvious to anybody but me that I had done so and had it at the ready. I carried mine at 3:30 and also in my small of back, slipped into a pocket easily also.

The most liberal, freedom fearing town fairly close to me (2 hours?) is Berkeley. Cops there will ask you about your fixed blade knife when it's visible, and ask why you need it. If you say it's a tool then they don't hassle you about it, but if you say "for defense" then you invite some further inspection and interrogation, so it is prudent for me living in my area to make sure that whatever I carry, particularly a fixed blade, isn't overtly "tactical" looking. Works fine for me, as I prefer leather sheaths and traditional knives over the high speed, low drag designs that are immensely popular.

 

I have to laugh when people make reference to my knife as a weapon when I usually carry not one but two handguns. I use my knife for opening boxes mostly. If I have a need for a weapon I won't be reaching for my box opener.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah. It's a beautiful state with vast amounts of different and incredible scenery, but Californians can be pretty ugly, and exceptionally so in some cases.

Where in CO are you at? I've never been there.
