I can keep it on a 12" steel plate @ 300yds with the 74 with 8 out of 10 shots using 7n6 with a red dot. Using irons maybe 1 out of 5. The sights are the downfall of the AK74 @ distance. I have never used magnified optics with an AK, never had the need to.

I was in the same boat as you. I wanted an AK47 and an AR15. So I bought a Bushmaster AR15 in 7.62x39. But I still want an AK47. lol Can't every have to many guns.

Thanks for the opinions. I ended up passing on the AK and put the extra money I had on the payment on my truck.

My AK is the most dependable long gun I own. I’m considering a second one, only this time a Polish underfolder. Sounds like you are passing on the AK, but $350 to $375 would be a good price, but AK’s don’t seem to depreciate, so he will probably get that $450 he is asking for. You You could sell and get your money back easy once you have the rest of the money saved for the AR and have a fun gun to shoot while you are saving. AK’s are in demand. When it comes to ammo, my experience is around 32 cents to 34 cents per round for .223/5.56 on the cheap end, and 18 cents per round for 7.62x39.

You need at least 1 AR, 1 AK, 1 .308 semi auto... the order you get them in should only depend on your budget at the time and ability to put off scratching that "itch" for another paycheck or 2 :p

save up for the AR, but don't get the bushmaster, they are overpriced for what they are.
